Natural History Museum of Denmark, Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for a Conservation Technician for a 21 month contract from March 1st 2024- December 31st 2025.
We are looking for a Technician to join our Conservation Unit to prepare, pack, move and install museum objects as part of our museum development project.

The candidate will be managed by the Head of Buildings and Operations but will work 100% in the conservation unit. The primary workplace will be at the Zoological Museum, Universitetsparken 15, 2100 København. The working language is English.

Solutions to grand challenges for humanity and the planet alike are only possible by way of local action, global collaboration, and by sharing knowledge and resources.
The vision of the Natural History Museum of Denmark is to empower citizens to connect with nature. We want to inspire, engage, and enable people to enjoy, understand, and care for the diversity of the natural world. In the coming years, we will be building a new Danish national museum for the natural world. One big museum complex in the Botanical Garden in the center of Copenhagen to host state-of-the-art laboratories, outstanding research collections, new public galleries, and combined facilities for teaching and science citizenship. Over the next few years, the museum will change the way people think about and use natural history museums. We are working on multiple intersecting capital projects to achieve this, as well as operating the existing museum venues that are open to the public with an exciting program of exhibitions and events.
Terms of salary and employment
The employment will be as conservation technician in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Association of Professional Technicians (TL) Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time is 30 hours per week on average.

Tasks
- Assisting with the access and deinstallation of existing exhibitions.
- Building specialist exhibition mounting systems, including with acrylic and glass.
- Building supportive frames and customised crates for packing and transport of museum objects.
- Undertaking restorations to objects and setworks under the supervision of the conservators, including airbrushing, paintwork, and finishing.
- Managing workshop, including maintaining order, cleanliness, maintain an inventory and ordering supplies.
- Ability to undertake repairs to equipment and hand tools.
- Assisting and co-ordinating the installation of objects into temporary and permanent galleries.
- Assist with ad-hoc duties in conservation unit such as moving of collections, freezer emergencies, etc.
We expect
- Has professional training and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a fabricator, carpenter, modelmaker or equivalent.
- Has minimum 1 year working experience from a museum conservation unit
- It is an advantage to be technically adept with excellent knowledge of workshop machinery and hand tools.
- It is an advantage to have knowledge and experience with working within the conservation unit at the Natural History Museum of Denmark.
- Has good knowledge of workshop Health and Safety procedures.
- Has good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Possesses energy and interest in acquiring new knowledge.
- Is conscientious, has good collaboration skills and the ability to communicate with other museum staff.
- Is flexible in relation to work tasks and the execution of their sequence.
- Has a good physique and can lift 25 kgs
- Has Danish drivers license.
- Fluent in English
