Computational Biology Scientist

At Gubra we are looking for a computational biology scientist to support and expand our fast-growing field of expertise, spanning from advanced gene expression analysis to computational drug discovery and software development. We are looking for a person with a passion for data science and great coordination skills, who takes ownership and can transform complicated data to valuable biological results. A scientist who are ready to set an ambitious high standard for the quality level of bioinformatics at Gubra.

We are focused within the disease areas of diabetes, obesity and NASH/NAFLD where many of our animal models and technological expertise’s are connected. At Gubra, we strongly believe in advancing science by continuously testing our hypotheses and trying to answer questions by conducting scientific studies in animal models or in the laboratory. As a computational biology scientist at Gubra, you are supporting that vision by analyzing data from several areas within the organization. You will be part of the Computational Biology group that consists of a group of highly passionate data scientists including PhD students who on a daily basis develop state of the art and tailor fitted solutions to understand and visualize biological problems. The group also performs various data management and software development tasks. As a member of our groups your tasks are varied, but can include:

• Develop and expand our in-house data analysis and visualization pipelines
• Develop and expand our NGS analysis infrastructure
• Develop, maintain, and support apps for data analysis tasks across the organization
• Computational drug discovery and development
• Take part in the daily scientific research, discussions, and presentations internally and externally

The exact tasks are defined by your qualifications and seniority.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Highly enthusiastic about all things related to data analysis and computational biology
• Your background can be a MSc or PhD in computational or biological / medical sciences with a keen interest in pharmacology, and drug discovery
• Fluent in the R programming language and able to execute advanced analysis tasks within this framework
• Experienced in handling and analyzing large expression datasets from genomics, transcriptomics, or proteomics experiments
• Familiarity with common data science strategies for dealing with large scale datasets

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Good Linux skills
• Experience developing software using R-Shiny
• Knowledge about database maintenance
• Experience in using machine-learning strategies to address biological questions
• Web application development
