The role will be an integral part of the Engineering department and will interface and collaborate with teams of physicists, engineers, and chemists, both internally as well as externally with technical partners, sub-suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical authority on the discipline of process engineering; establish methods, principles and approaches for carrying out process engineering at Seaborg.

  • Design reliable and safe process systems and sub-systems from requirements through final design and verification.

  • Ensure compliance, manufacturability and compatibility of CMSR systems, continuously and iteratively revisiting requirements, interfaces, drawing annotations, etc.

  • Identify and ensure effective application of appropriate design codes such as ASME, ANSI, etc.

  • Analyse and apply regulatory criteria and standards to complex process designs.

  • Participate in planning efforts and maintain schedule for design activities.

TASKS

  • Create and manage work packages of process system designs.

  • Produce and review technical design documents, such as System Design Descriptions, Equipment Lists, Data Sheets, Technical Reports, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), etc.

  • Produce and review process design calculations including mass balances and hydraulics.

  • Lead and collaborate with other disciplines such as mechanical design, instrumentation & controls, and neutronics to identify and/or develop equipment design information and specifications.

  • Plan and coordinate testing programs for equipment qualification.

COMPETENCIES

MINIMUM COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline.

  • At least 5 years of experience working with and process systems.

  • Experience with high temperature process fluid systems, or similar demanding environments.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Familiarity with high strength, corrosion resistant, nuclear compatible materials for use in high temperature environments.

  • Understanding of high temperature fluid systems and typical fittings for the nuclear industry and applicable standards, such as ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5.

  • Experience from the nuclear industry is a plus.

  • Experience managing projects with internal and external team members.

  • Experience from developing projects in new fields where existing solutions and products do not exist is a positive.

QUALITIES

  • Driven to take on responsibility and to establish and develop the process engineering discipline within Seaborg proactively and sometimes independently.

  • Strong attention to detail and quality. A finisher at heart.

  • Ability to creatively approach and overcome process design problems, while retaining motivation over multiple iterations of the same design.

  • Patient demeanour with willingness to explain, justify, negotiate and provide guidance, also in times of stress.

  • Capable and willing to speak up and raise opinions, especially about potential pitfalls and concerns, but also commits to decisions.

  • Team player able to interact with, listen to and understand specialists and managers in a wide variety of technical disciplines. Seaborg’s success depends on our ability to work together.
