Senior Data Engineer

Then you may be our new Senior Data Engineer colleague for our Technology team in the Svitzer headquarters in Copenhagen!

We are looking for a skilled Senior Data Engineer to help develop and maintain our data platform. As the ideal candidate, you'll ensure that our data pipelines are reliable, scalable, and efficient. You'll work closely with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Software Engineers, and Business Analysts to develop and implement data-driven solutions that will help us improve our business operations and enhance user experiences.

Who we are

Svitzer is a leading Global Towage Operator, providing towage and sustainable marine solutions to make ports and terminals safer, more efficient and more climate friendly. We have customers in 30+ countries across four Regions: Australia, AMEA, Europe and America.

In recent years, we have grown through new contracts and acquisitions, and growing continues to be a focus. At the same time, we are implementing our new Strategy, which prioritises Decarbonization and Technology. However, our standard marine services remain critical to us.

We operate globally 24/7, which means that things rarely stand still. However, we are good at manoeuvring being busy, as we enjoy working as a team by listening to and helping each other. We also appreciate when colleagues voice their opinions.

The Role

As Senior Data Engineer in Svitzer, you will report to the Head of Data Platform. We are a larger team, cooperating with external consultants and the rest of the organisation. You will play a crucial role in the organisation's data platform, managing processes and optimising large data volumes to enable efficient analysis and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable and reliable data architectures and pipelines to support data integration, transformation, storage, and analysis as per business needs.

  • Design, implement, and optimise data models, schemas, and database structures.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and implement effective solutions.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot performance issues in the data infrastructure to ensure reliable and timely data delivery.

  • Ensure data quality and integrity throughout the data pipeline.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in data engineering.

  • Document technical specifications, processes, and workflows for reference purposes.



We are looking for

The ideal candidate has all or some of the below experience:

  • You must hold a valid Danish residence and work permit.

  • You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, e.g. DevOps Engineer or cloud Engineer.

  • You have at least 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer.

  • You have proficiency in related programming languages such as Python, PySpark, Spark.

  • You have a strong understanding of storage & database systems (relational, non-relational, SQL, and NoSQL), query optimisation, and performance tuning.

  • You have strong experience with data warehousing and ETL tools (e.g., Apache Spark), specifically Azure Databricks, Azure Datalake, Azure CosmosdB, and Azure Data Factory.

  • You have experience with big-data architecture components such as ingestion, batch processing, stream processing, and analytics.

  • You have experience with Azure or data storage and processing.

  • You have working experience with Azure DevOps (git), CI/CD and pipelines.

  • You have knowledge of data modelling and design principles for effective data storage and retrieval.

  • You have experience in Azure IoT and Azure Event Hub, or Azure Functions, which is a major advantage.

  • Knowledge of Data Lakehouse.

  • You have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues related to data processing pipelines.

  • You have good communication and collaboration skills.

  • You must be fluent in oral and written English, as this is our corporate language.
