Senior Data Engineer

You will report to Rune Bay, Head of Data Platform in Svitzer Technology, who adds, "We have a very exciting role in a fantastic team. We are located in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, and Svitzer is a leading Global Towage Operator. We have 430 tugboats worldwide and 4,400 colleagues to deliver sustainable marine solutions, making ports and terminals safer, more efficient and climate friendly. More about the Role

As Senior Data Engineer in Svitzer, you will be part of a team consisting of a BI Delivery Manager, a Scrum Master, Full-Stack Developers, Data Scientists and Data Engineers with part of the team placed in Portugal.

You will play a crucial role in the organisation's data platform, general architecture, managing processes and optimising large data volumes for efficient analysis and decision-making. You will help develop and maintain our data platform by ensuring that our data pipelines and data enrichment is reliable, scalable, and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable and reliable data architectures and pipelines to support data integration, transformation, storage, and analysis as per business needs.
  • Lead and set data engineering standards for the team.
  • Design, implement, and optimise data models, schemas, and database structures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and implement effective solutions.
  • Monitor, review and troubleshoot performance issues in the data infrastructure to ensure reliable and timely data delivery.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity throughout the data platform.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in data engineering.

We are looking for

The ideal candidate can tick off all or some of the below:

  • Must hold a valid Danish residence and work permit (a prerequisite).
  • Must be fluent in oral and written English, as this is our corporate language.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, e.g. DevOps Engineer or Cloud Engineer.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Proficiency in related programming languages such as Python, PySpark, and Spark.
  • Thorough understanding of storage & database systems (relational, non-relational, SQL, and NoSQL), query optimisation, and performance tuning.
  • Strong experience with data warehousing and ETL tools (e.g., Apache Spark), specifically Azure Databricks, Azure Datalake, Azure CosmosdB, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience with big-data architecture components such as ingestion, batch processing, stream processing, and analytics.
  • Experience with Azure or data storage and processing.
  • Experience working with Azure DevOps (git), CI/CD and pipelines.
  • Experience in Azure IoT and Azure Event Hub, or Azure Functions, which is a major advantage.
  • Knowledge of Data Lakehouse
  • Knowledge of data modelling and design principles for effective data storage and retrieval.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues related to data processing pipelines.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
