Project 1: Predict the future for shipments in transit
Help us make our customers happy by extending the functionality for our track and trace of shipment using Machine Learning.
In the world of global transport and logistics, transit time and time of delivery is an important part of planning a customer’s supply chain. For example, it enables the customers to plan for supply and demand. So, if something happens while the shipments is in transit and it causes a delay, we would like to be able to tell our costumers immediately, whether it is stuck at sea, at the airport or in the last warehouse before delivery.
In this project, you build the app based on automatic utilization of data from global traffic monitoring platforms for air planes and sea vessels in combination with in-house historical data. With this as the foundation for this project, and adding the route chosen, means of transportation and who is shipping what to where, you will be well on your way to estimating when a shipment can be delivered. We picture the project to involve both data retrieval and handling, together with use of predictive algorithms and machine learning to reduce the time used to wait and check for updates on deliveries all around the world.
Project 2: Use AI to secure shipments’ safe passage around the world
Use Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning to increase efficiency when we ship goods from A to B.
When traveling the world and crossing borders, having a valid passport is key. The same goes for the goods dsv ships. To be able to ship across borders, products in a shipment need a product-specific tariff code, which details the contents of the goods down to the color of a fabric or the contents of a specific blend of tea.
Creating tariff codes are important for securing a safe journey for the goods, but it is a complicated and time-consuming process. A tariff code is not only based on contents but also the journey the goods take, e.g. if it is inside the EU or not, and different parts of the world work with different systems for tariff codes.
Automating tariff codes would significantly increase the efficiency with which dsv can ship our customers’ goods. We will equip you with a decade of dsv custom data, and your creativity can fully unfold in finding possible AI solutions that make it possible to automate tariff codes based on product descriptions. If you crack the code, we might very well implement this across our global organisation.
