The Demography Unit of the University of Southern Denmark's Interdisciplinary Centre on Population Dynamics (CPop) seeks to recruit a Data Manager. As part of the Faculty of Business and Social Science, the Demography unit collaborates with researchers across the faculties, including economics and political science in its own faculty, biology, mathematics and data analysis in the Faculty of Natural Science, epidemiology, biostatistics, biodemography and health economics in the Faculty of Health Sciences, literature and media science in the Faculty of Humanities. The Unit’s current research spans a variety of demographic topics including mortality forecasting, spatial inequalities in health and mortality, lifespan inequality, as well as methods of mathematical and statistical modeling, and big data analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities:
The Data Manager has overall responsibility for developing, maintaining and directing the data infrastructure that serves empirical CPop research. The Data Manager oversees CPop´s core data management functions, such as acquiring/transferring all research-related data; processing and preparing data to ensure that they are of the highest quality; ensuring compliance with all data security requirements including all GDPR legislation, and any contractual agreements with CPop's partner agencies. The Data Manager also is the primary liaison between CPop and SDU IT department.

Additional responsibilities include developing and tracking data project timelines, preparing status reports and data reports for both internal and external use, managing data resources, and serving as the primary innovator on the design and implementation of new data-related tools and processes that could enhance CEPR's research.

Specific accountabilities include:

• Managing the extract, transform, load (ETL) data processes and the secure acquisition and transfer of research-related data.
• Enhancing current processes for the efficient and secure transfer of data.
• Ensuring compliance with all data security requirements including GDPR legislation.
• Overseeing the maintenance of CPop´s internal data infrastructure, including maintaining data access rights and developing processes for sound data preparation, analysis and storage (e.g., consistent file-naming conventions, program documentation, standards regarding programming best practices, archiving of data from completed projects, etc.).
• Collaboration with other CPop staff to ensure that the Center's data are of the highest quality.
• Collaborating with CPop Principal Investigators and research staff to produce “data specs” to guide research acquisition.
• Developing process for cleaning raw data and preparing it for research use (including performing various data quality and plausibility checks).
• Serving as lead liaison between CPop and SDU administration to ensure compliance with University's security and data requirements.

The successful candidate will become a part of the centre’s administration team (TAP position) for an initial duration of one year with a potential for an extension of minimum four years conditional upon a positive evaluation.

Basic Qualifications:
We prefer a candidate who has a BA or BS and a minimum of 3 years of experience managing large scale data projects for the purposes of supporting research or analysis. Demonstrated expertise with database management, ETL processes, and dealing with large volumes of data. Experience programming in one or several data management and statistical programming software packages (e.g., SQL, SAS, STATA, R).

Additional Qualifications:
Applicants with a graduate degree in social science, information or data science are preferred. The more experience dealing with large volumes of data the better. Prior experience with ETL of Danish Registry data from Statistics Denmark is a big plus. Knowledge of GDPR legislation is a big plus. The ideal candidate will be highly productive working under pressure with time constraints, possess the ability to work independently, with supervision, or in collaboration as a team. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English required, good knowledge of Danish is an advantage.
