Energy Island Power System Analyst

A broad majority in the Danish Parliament has decided that two energy islands are to be established in Denmark. The energy islands will be hubs for offshore wind power in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, and Energinet has an important role in realising this. The highly innovative energy islands require significant technical development. The power system on the islands is a 100 % converter-based power system facilitating both wind power plants, HVDC-based interconnectors and eventually PtX plants. Plants from several manufacturers need to operate securely and reliably together both in the first stage of the project, but also as the energy islands are further expanded over time. Ensuring energy islands’ stability, plant interoperability and expandability are key elements for the success of the projects.

Directly linked to the green transition

As Power System Stability Analyst in the Department Power System Design, you contribute directly to the green transition. You play an important role in the organisation, where you are responsible for the design of the power system on the future energy islands. You ensure that analysis results are placed in the right context and communicated, so they can be used directly as design specifications, project design and decision making.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Contribute to the electrical system design of Denmark’s future energy islands

  • Undertake energy island power system stability assessment using various analytical tools

  • Participate in HVDC projects with a focus on specification of functional requirements for control and protection, simulation models and system integration studies

  • Specify, verify performance and implement a range of different types of simulation models for energy island connected plants

  • Participate in European research and development projects with focus on functional design and specifications of HVDC and wind power systems You can look forward to an exciting job with great responsibility, variety, and complexity. You will work closely with 15 highly specialized colleagues, and you will be at the centre of the decision-making to ensure the stability of the future green power system.

You will be part of an organisation where flexibility and work life in balance are high on the agenda. You will therefore be offered equipment for a good home workplace in order to be able to vary in the best possible way with being at our head office in Fredericia and at home.

Power System or Power Electronic engineer

You hold a master’s degree within Power System or Power Electronic engineering, combined with minimum 2-3 years of work experience – either from the HVDC, wind or solar industry or a TSO. You are specialized in simulation-based analysis and have experience within modelling of power electronic interfaced plants. You have well-developed competencies within the use of PSCAD and programming skills, e.g. using Python.

It is important that you like to work with advanced theory and have strong analytical skills and a well-developed critical sense. You work systematically, take responsibility, have personal impact and can work independently. You are good at collaborating with different professional groups and at communicating complex issues in a clear and easy-to-understand language. You speak and write English fluently and preferably also Danish.
