Maersk is looking for a researcher within disruption management in terminal operations who will ensure that Maersk project Hub Berthing Planner delivers decision support systems that will be able to suggest new berthing windows, equipment deployment, cargo connections and revised planning in both regular planning situations and handling of contingencies. Hub Berthing Planner will bring mathematical optimization to Terminal Operations to facilitate better and faster decision-making. You will be part of the Technology delivery team, working with peers, business specialists, and software developers to develop world class IT tools for Maersk that will optimize the usage of the world’s largest hub terminals.
This is an opportunity to be part of Hub Berthing Planner product team, which will transform the manner Maersk does planning of terminal operations in hubs.
Reporting to the Product Delivery Lead for hubs, the position offers a unique opportunity to impact the digital transformation in Maersk through your expertise in using mathematical modelling and optimization to solve business problems.
We offer a position where you put theory into practice and combine your academic knowledge of mathematical optimization and software development skills with a business mind-set.
You will be working in an international environment with key stakeholders in the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain as well as business customers across hubs in a number of countries.
As a researcher you will be responsible for collecting and analyzing business requirements, envision solutions, develop and test prototypes for the vessel and cargo recovery, terminal equipment deployment and staffing problems. You will be responsible for developing algorithms for optimization of terminal operations planning.
You will furthermore be responsible for the creation of test cases and for testing the developed algorithms.
You will be involved in the general developments for Hub Berthing Planner to ensure that the algorithms developed for terminal operations planning optimization can interact, exchange data and work from the same database.
You will have the opportunity to cooperate with other leading optimization specialists within Maersk.
The successful candidate has a technical background with a PhD in engineering, mathematics or computer science specializing in Operations Research and preferably mathematical optimization. Prior experience with disruption management research and shipping industry knowledge are distinct advantages.
You are able to document business requirements, formulate these into mathematical models and implement solvers in standard optimization software packages or customized applications. Experience with prototyping is a must and software development in a business environment is highly desirable.
You have the ability to work under deadlines and are capable of delivering in increments.
You have good communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to work in a team and with external stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds. Proficiency in both written and oral English is a must.
You must have experience with IT development on Linux/C++ platform or Windows/C#.
