Would you like to get a unique and exciting opportunity to assist in building “the best in class” Financial Crime Intelligence & Analytics function and lay the foundations for the future?
Nordea is presently raising its ambitions in the Financial Crime area, aiming for best in class processes. The focus on Compliance in general and Financial Crime in particular has increased in the Bank during the recent period. Nordea is facing increasing regulatory expectations from Nordic regulators, as well as from ECB and regulators for the international branches. Group Compliance and Financial Crime is therefore in the process of significantly strengthening its capability to guide and support the organisation to meet these expectations.
We are now looking for a Business Analyst to utilise their experience on financial crime, to provide valuable input on how special investigations and intelligence analysis should be carried out, as well as how data could be explored and presented to provide insights. In addition, you will explore the data to find financial crime patterns and provide requirements on how such patterns can be developed into our analytics product stack.

About this opportunity
Welcome to the Group Financial Crime Prevention. We add value by Supporting the delivery of investigations cases and intelligence analysis using data. This is a role within the newly created Intelligence & Analytics area of Financial Crime (FCIA) with responsibility of managing cross jurisdictional special investigations and coordinating both operational and strategic intelligence development. As the Business Analyst you will play a valuable role in helping to establish an outstanding financial crime organisation. This role will be given all the necessary resources to be successful.
Financial Crime Intelligence & Analytics (FCIA) provides specialist capabilities to support enterprise wide Complex Investigations, Proactive Strategic Intelligence and Financial Crime Threat Management.
FCIA also provides subject matter expertise to support analytics initiative to drive great efficiency and effectiveness across traditional financial crime monitoring and detection capabilities.
What you will be doing:
- The expertise and experience to execute elements of special investigations and intelligence validation towards our books
- Use your understanding of bank data to connect key data pieces by the use of analytics
- Use the knowledge of the data to suggest data analysis methods to solve concrete problems, as well as recommend concrete measures for investigation directions and suggest actionable intelligence to build the monitoring capability
- Produce high quality, timely and relevant material for presentations, proposals and reporting in order to support the decision-making
- A curious mind, not afraid of suggesting data driven solutions that will increase the bank’s effectiveness and efficiency
- The candidate will take responsibility to contribute to and drive important product deliveries, which supports the functions strategic build of capabilities across investigations, monitoring and intelligence
- Understanding and technical awareness of open source technologies, Hadoop, search, graph databases, entity resolution, network analysis and machine learning principles
- Stakeholder management will be important in this role. The successful candidate must have the capability and knowledge speak with key FCIA business stakeholders and translate requirements towards the Data Science team, and the ability to facilitate data driven discussions and influence key business stakeholders towards more effective solutions
- Have a strong cultural awareness and also a dynamic approach, willing to take on extra responsibilities when needed
- Take responsibility of own learning by proactively seeking out opportunities within FCIA i.e. research and explore value-adding solutions, suggest training and stay at the forefront of financial crime trends
You will join a growing team, with a high focus on Financial Crime covering intelligence, investigations, data and products. The role is based in the Nordics or Estonia.

To succeed in this role, we believe that you:
- Will need a background in financial crime data, with the ability to facilitate and influence data driven discussions with a wide stakeholder group
- Have a strong technical background with exposure to Big Data technologies (Hadoop, R, Python)
- Have experience in data ingestion projects
Your experience and background:
- Financial Crime
- Strong technical understanding covering AML, Sanctions and ABC
- Abframework
- FI Data
- Subject matter expert in Financial Crime data with a proven track record in transforming raw data into meaningful and actionable intelligence
- Experience in statistical modelling and big data technologies (Hadoop / Graph Databases)
- In-depth understanding of a Financial Institutions systems infrastructure (Customer, Transactional, Payments) and Financial Crime monitoring and detection systems
- Relational Databases experience (RDBMS – Oracle/SQL Server/MS Access etc.
- Experience defining technical requirements and experience liaising between technical and business teams/stakeholders
- Hadoop knowledge/experience, Data Migration / Data Ingestion projects experience as well as SQL (Structured Query Language) coding experience
- Knowledge of data structures and issues related to transferring data types, and knowledge or experience using message queues / data streaming (e.g. Apache Kafka)
- Qualifications
- Computer Science or Statistical based Degree
- AML (ACAMS, ICA) or Investigations qualifications
