To support our operations, we are looking for Substitution Experts (Roles of Finance Managers/Specialists & Head of Support Services).

Job Summary

The purpose of the position is to support DRC’s Legal entities by substituting missing financial capacities mostly on the field but also remotely. This would entail to keep the workflow in a steady pace in finance department, fill the chair of the Head of Support Services/Finance Manager/Finance Specialist or simply allow the country to increase their capacity in times of need, such as year closures, emergencies, increased funding etc. Yes, this is to be considered as a roving position with 75% of time travelling to the most exciting places in the world.

Who are we?

The Department of Finance, Supply Chain and Risk (FRISC) consists of more than 70 colleagues divided into four divisions. The Operational Finance Division is one of them, probably the nicest -although the others are nice as well -, but we are surely the one with most team members. You will be managed by the Head of Operational Finance. In Operational Finance, we support over 40 country offices- which are spread over four continents- in financial related tasks, both in financial project management and accounting, while we coordinate donor audits. Thus, you will work together with dedicated Finance & Business Controller teams, but also the Donor Audit & Contract advisors' team.

About the job

Substituting of key finance management positions/capacities in country offices (CO), regional offices (RO) & headquarters (HQ) during periods of long term ( 2 weeks) gaps. Positions/capacities might be that of Head of Support Services, Finance Manager, Specialist, Business/Finance Controller etc. The below are key focus tasks during position/capacity substitution:

Staff Management (where & when applicable)

- Manages Finance & Support Services staff ensuring mentoring, work & administrative task follow up etc., in case of managerial substitution.

Accounting

- Ensures that budgeting, accounting, month & year closure procedures & control, and other financial processes take place according to DRC policies, donor and auditor requirements.

- Lead/support clean-up process of DRC Dynamics in coordination with respective stakeholders

Project Finance

- Ensures the project finances are overviewed and managed

- Ensures project proposals are delivered for controlling to HQ in high quality

- Overviews donor reporting and performs level quality assurance

- Overviews partner & consortium financial monitoring and performs level quality assurance

Audits

- Supports any related donor or statutory audit in the CO/RO

Trainings & Capacity Building of staff

- Conducts Finance training finance & non finance staff for CO/RO

- Capacity Building of field finance staff on DRC Dynamics, financial procedures, and proper supporting documentation.

Continuation, Coordination & Transition

-Ensures the reception of proper handover from the exiting staff

-Ensures the continuation of operations as such

-Delivers the handover to the incoming staff & guarantees information sharing and support of the incoming staff deployment during the first 30 days (remotely).

- In case of HoSS position, coordinates smoothly with the Regional HoSS (RHoSS) for matters of regional financial inputs.

Special tasks

You will also be involved in special projects, with aim to improve the overall financial capacities in DRC globally as well as participating in various working groups, taskforces etc. across the organisation, given the time & prioritisation.

Reporting

Reports de-facto monthly to the Head of Operational Finance and according to deployment to the respective manager (eg. Country Director, Head of Support Services or Executive Director of Region etc.).

  • CO/RO Finance and Support teams.

About you

To be successful in this role, we expect you to be a self-fulfilled professional, with high operational and ethical integrity, who is willing to travel in short notice – we will do our best though to be proactive but expect around 2 weeks. A strong team approach is needed when it comes to standardization, common goals, and quality across the board.

You must have a solid operational financial & accounting background, combined with the elegance of multicultural communication, the adaptability of water & eloquence of Socrates. Managerial experience is essential, preferably 2 years and above. A deep knowledge of MS DYNAMICS should be there. H.E.A.T training is an added value and a point closer to your hiring.

Our working languages are English (predominantly), French, Arabic & Spanish. We would appreciate English and one of the other languages, in a professional level.

Hiring factors of the right person will apart from technical knowledge be based on linguistic skills, easiness of access to the countries that consist of DRCs portfolio and commitment to the cause.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in relevant field, namely business administration, finance, accounting etc.
  • Accredited Chartered accountant by a renown international institution (CPA, CFA, CMA etc)
  • Controller and accounting experience, preferably from an international organization/NGO.
  • Adaptability and eagerness to learn in other support domains (Supply Chain & HR).
  • Have attention to details while at the same time keeping an overview.
  • Experienced user of Excel.

We offer plenty opportunities to travel and work in some of the most exciting countries in the world - pick a non-frozen continent but Oceania and we got you covered – after of course a necessary induction and training period; expect to travel around 9 out of 12 months of the year maximum, but no more than 3 consecutive months. You will be based preferably in Copenhagen, in a very nice working environment in a very vibrant area downtown, or in any other country that DRC has a legal entity/ office – no we cannot base you in your home country if DRC does not have an office, unfortunately, and this is not negotiable. Contract details

Contract Type:National

Contract length: One year with high chances of extension.

Working hours: 37 hours per week, including lunch time.

Workplace: Preferably in Copenhagen- or any other DRC CO/RO.

Start date: As early as possible.

This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply, of the hosting legal entity. When workplace is in Copenhagen salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and AC (agreement for academics).
