Are you an experienced and strategic minded senior profile working with R&D (Research & Development) portfolio management in the pharma or biotech industry? Do you want to impact the strategic direction of Novo Nordisk and drive portfolio management to the next level? The position You will report to the VP of R&ED Portfolio & Analytics and drive high-impact R&D portfolio shaping initiatives, setting direction by implementing state of the art portfolio thinking and projects influencing the strategic direction R&D portfolio. A large part of our deliverables are anchored at executive level, which requires the ability to challenge and collaborate across professional disciplines such as R&ED, Development, Finance and the Commercial business units, while also providing both a high level of visibility, accountability and hands on interaction throughout the value chain. In this role, you will be the portfolio management practice lead with a broad and deep understanding of the pharma value chain. Given the scope and focus on portfolio management both across the value chain with a strong emphasis on the research and early development. Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Implementation of state of the art portfolio management principles and tools/frameworks ensuring pipeline shaping in accordance with our strategy and therapy area ambitions
  • Drive complex and high-impact portfolio assessments addressing portfolio opportunities and challenges (internal and external)
  • Derive and distill key portfolio insights and foresight based on internal and external intelligence to guide high impact and value decisions
  • Connect the link between corporate strategic decisions, pipeline and external competitor situations to identify optional portfolio frontiers
  • Align pipeline options, dependencies and competitive situations with therapy area strategies and aspirations
  • Be the central senior portfolio management functional specialist connecting with the R&ED leadership team, Governances and other Portfolio Management Offices across Novo Nordisk
  • Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a balanced profile of scientific and business competencies combined with the ability to effectively communicate and work across the full value chain. Your proven track record within R&D portfolio management is crucial and holding a high-level life science or business education, solid pharmaceutical industry experience, and strong business acumen is required. We expect +10 years of experience which could be from working in large pharmaceutical, or biotech company or in venture capital focusing on R&D portfolio management and investment. Therefore, the following experience is required:
  • Several years of hands on in implementing and driving complex portfolio management, concepts and deep-dives for high impact decision making and prioritisation
  • Excellent presentation skills, capable of structuring material to enable efficient decision-making, while also tailoring the level of communication across stakeholders to ensure success of new initiatives
  • Engagement and presentation to senior leaders and specialists from different backgrounds
  • Recognised as a functional leader within (R&D) portfolio management
  • Building a strong internal network through trust and quality work allowing you to impact the direction and address critical portfolio questions
  • Established external network and knowledge to continuously ensure that you stay up to date and source new ideas and principles to elevate your work impact
  • Finally, you have significant experience working with complex matrix organisations and you are capable of independently driving an agenda. As a person, you are ambitious, flexible and able to build trusting relationships at all levels. About the department R&ED Strategy & Portfolio serves as an internal function of Novo Nordisk, collaborating across R&ED and the Clinical Development organisation to develop, refine and facilitate the execution of strategies to meet our R&D aspirations. Over the coming years, Novo Nordisk R&ED will identify and execute on new strategic priorities, enabling the build-up of a more diverse, dynamic and scientifically leading pipeline of drug discovery and development projects. The area is overall responsible for driving strategic initiatives across the R&ED organisation and collaborates across the Novo Nordisk value chain to arrive at well-founded recommendations that ultimately impact the future of Novo Nordisk. The unit directly supports and reports to the top management in R&ED and the Governance Committee overseeing the research and early development portfolio. The area consists of a mix of experienced profiles with scientific, business and consultancy background as well as a mix of nationalities.
