Where do you come in?
The key to VIKING’s success is the ability to continuously develop innovative, high quality products and service offerings. We work with integrated, systematic product development, and we’re looking for a talented and ambitious R&D Director to head up this crucial effort. Your professional background and personality will provide inspiration, guidance and results-oriented leadership for a team of 11 experienced, motivated engineers and developers.
Referring to the Vice President of R&D and Engineering, the R&D Director plays a strategic role at VIKING. You will be responsible for the development and optimization of safety solutions. In addition to day-to-day management tasks, you will be responsible for setting the direction and goals for the department. You will propose development and innovation strategies for the future, and ensure that winning strategies are successfully adopted and implemented. You will also participate in various cross-organizational project teams, including the internal development committee, which is attended by executive management.
Primary tasks and responsibilities:
- Take on overall managerial responsibility for the R&D Department, including the professional development of its employees
- Drive the strategic R&D agenda and follow up on plans for product portfolios and project targets
- Have overall responsibility for our award winning VIKING LifeCraft™ system - considered to be one of the most game changing innovations in evacuation systems in decades
- Participate in the development of new products and optimization of existing products, driving innovation and development processes to maintain VIKING’s market leadership
- Manage and participate in cross-organizational development projects.
Who are you?
The ideal candidate has a degree in e.g. marine engineering, civil engineering or another relevant technical background, preferably supplemented by a management degree.
You have experience from an R&D function in an industrial and international organization, preferably related to the maritime sector. You have extensive experience in portfolio management of R&D projects, including interacting with a considerable number of internal and external partners, and, of course, in project management. Your R&D toolbox is highly developed and up to date, and you have significant experience in user-driven innovation. Knowledge of Financial Project Management in SAP is a plus, and a high level of English proficiency (speaking and writing) is required.
As a person you are business- and result-oriented, and as a leader you have a strong focus on performance, motivation and job satisfaction. You are highly analytical and have a high level of abstraction. You are decisive, naturally assertive and have a strong drive. You are focused and systematic, and you proactively follow up on all tasks.
