Måløv

Are you an experienced specialist in bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence & Digital Research, thriving to work in cross disciplinary projects within systems biology, functional genomics, statistics, and machine learning?

Are you motivated by discovering the next drugs for cardiometabolic diseases and by improving the lives of patients? Would you like to be part of a new digital area that will change our way of using large-scale biological data and facilitate data-driven decision making?

If so, then there are 2 openings to join the Digital Science and Innovation (DSI) at Novo Nordisk and become a part of our Bioinformatics area.

Apply now!

The position

You will be part of a team of bioinformaticians/computational biologists facilitating biomarker identification for a broad portfolio of projects across the full spectrum of Novo Nordisk’s cardiometabolic diseases of interest. This work is done in close collaboration with colleagues from Global Translation and in particular the Biomarker Identification department.

You will be responsible for delivering fit-for-purpose in silico results impacting biomarker identificationin both pre-clinical and clinical drug discovery projects where you will work in close collaboration with stakeholders designing experimental activities to identify relevant biomarkers and the assays to measure them. By doing so, you will enable data-driven decision-making to de-risk early drug development programs.

In such an interdisciplinary environment, you are expected to:

  • represent bioinformatics excellence in translational teams, Identify, design, and execute innovative computational approaches to identify translational biomarkers
  • understand the underlying biological pathways behind cardiometabolic disease and apply systems biology techniques to biomarker identification

  • have a collaborative mindset both within the team and outside the team to share knowledge, techniques, and best practices

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should ideally have:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics / Computational Biology or equivalent subjects and a minimum of 3-5 years experience
  • Substantial hands-on experience analysing large omics datasets. Preferably one or more among the following: proteomics (including Somalogics), metabolomics, and transcriptomics
  • Demonstrable experience in the application of systems biology techniques: functional enrichment in the context of pathways and gene regulation/protein interaction networks
  • Thorough understanding of the biological mechanisms behind cardiometabolic disease (e.g. obesity, NASH, CKD, CVD, T2D) is preferred
  • Good understanding of the research and development value chain in pharma, with particular focus on biomarker identification
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

About the department

The Department of Bioinformatics and Data Mining combines strong computational skills with biological insights through the integrative analysis of internal and external biomedical data. Our analytical expertise spans a wide range of areas, from sequence analysis, many different omics, pathway analysis, to text-mining. We contribute to all aspects of pre-clinical research projects at Novo Nordisk, where we act as bioinformatics and data analysis experts and drive the bioinformatics analytical and application solutions and best practices across the company as well as participating in external collaborations with academic and industrial partners. We value diversity of skills, cultures, and backgrounds in our team and believe that our work results in real impacts on new medicines for diseases of highly unmet medical need. We are currently a team of 20 scientists, and in addition, the department includes students and external consultants.

Bioinformatics and Data mining is anchored in the Digital Science & Innovation organisation within Research & Early Development at Novo Nordisk. DSI is responsible for driving the digital journey across all our therapy areas in R&ED. In DSI, we work in multidisciplinary teams – in strong collaboration with all areas across R&ED and R&ED IT. We participate in drug development projects across the value chain, from early discovery to pre-clinical development. We engage in external collaborations to ensure access to the latest research and technology enablers, and we automate our labs and processes, and we focus on developing and retaining top talent.
