About the department
The Microbial Expression Department (MiE) is part of Recombinant Technologies (RT) and has microbial strain engineering and protein production as core tasks. The primary responsibility of MiE is to ensure timely support to our research projects with a broad range of protein expression technologies, strain optimization tools and production strains.
The position
We are looking for a talented and motivated scientist to support, apply and develop next-generation sequencing (NGS) related applications in our research projects across RT, including work on microbial and mammalian genomes and transcriptomes, as well as antibody discovery.
The successful candidate will work out of the department and will interact closely with scientists across the area to devise and execute appropriate experimental strategies and generate data using methods that capture multi-modal data.
As Senior Scientist, you will:
• Serve as a technical expert in NGS application, providing guidance on the use of NGS and related technologies to solve specific research challenges
• Be responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and reporting scientific findings and work closely with bioinformaticians to propel new discoveries
• Drive, develop and implement new NGS methods in a hands-on fashion while working in a fast-paced and multidisciplinary environment
Qualifications
The preferred candidate is an excellent molecular biologist holding a relevant scientific degree (biology, biochemistry, engineering or similar) ideally supplemented with a PhD and/or 5 years industrial experience within e.g., in molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics or related fields.
To be successful, you are expected to have:
• Extensive experience in designing, troubleshooting, and implementing NGS related experimentation (ampliconSeq, Nextera based protocols, TruSeq library preparation, single cell sequencing, miRNA seq, RNAseq, etc.)
• Broad experience in next-generation sequencing methods, from experimental design to library preparations and sequencing instrumentation (Oxford Nanopore/MiSeq/PacBio/ 10XGenomics)
• An excellent understanding of bioinformatics as well as hands-on experience with data analysis of omics data and proficiency in at least one general purpose programming language for NGS data analysis (e.g., R, Python)
Furthermore, you have a strong record of achievements and ability to present complex data as reflected in peer-reviewed publications, excellent communication and collaboration skills and ability to work in diverse and cross functional teams with multiple nationalities.
It will be considered an advantage if you have experience with programming and the application of liquid handlers for sample preparation (e.g., Beckman Coulter BioMek, Dynamic Devices Lynx).
