The Position
You will be responsible to aid scientists in our stem cell research area with automating central workflows and helping them to develop and apply automation to generate maximum value.
Some of your key responsibilities:
The role may involve visiting our global sites. This is a very people facing role, so a positive outgoing nature is important. The position is a temporary 3-year position.

About the department
You will be working in an area called Digital Science & Innovation which is supporting the digital journey across all our global therapy areas in R&ED. We work in multidisciplinary teams, have strong collaboration with all areas across R&ED to leverage scientific knowledge, and partner with our IT organisation, to ensure access to the most advanced technology platforms and tools. We participate in drug development projects across the value chain, from early discovery to pre-clinical development. We engage on external collaborations to ensure access to the latest research and technology enablers, we automate our labs and processes, and we focus on developing and retaining top talent.

The Position
You will be responsible to aid scientists in our stem cell research area with automating central workflows and helping them to develop and apply automation to generate maximum value.
Some of your key responsibilities:
- Talk to vendors and discus solutions.
- Advise on purchases and preparation of process descriptions and other documentation required.
- Hands-on practical implementation and optimising of automation solutions.
- Converting existing manual processes to automation friendly ones
- Scaling processes to increase throughput and consistency
- Help deliver the integration of the hardware with the databases etc to ensure FAIR goals.

Qualifications
- You are an expert on Biomek and Tecan liquid handling platforms in all aspects of their use and software, including scripting and GUIs. Experience with other liquid handlers is desired but not required.
- You are familiar with other liquid handling platforms and integrated systems (and scheduling software such as green button go, momentum, genera etc)
- You are familiar with and programming languages such as python, C# etc.
- You are experienced in sourcing, vendor selection, project management and implementation of automation solutions.
- You are experienced with mammalian cell culture systems and ideally pluripotent stem cell cultures.
- You are experienced with general laboratory procedures such as pipetting techniques and ideally cell counting principles.
- You have a PhD-degree in chemistry, biology, biomedical research or similar.
