We are creating a new department to focus on Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) modelling in our ‘DMPK & Nonclinical management’ area. Do you have extensive experience with QSP modelling? And are you ready to set the direction for this exciting new area in Novo Nordisk? Then you might be our new Head of Discovery PKPD and QSP modelling. Position & Department ‘Discovery PKPD & QSP modelling’ is a newly established department in ‘DMPK & Nonclinical management’ in ‘Research & Early Development’ at Novo Nordisk. The department in currently building up and will consist of 10-12 scientists and students by the end of 2023.As Head of Discovery PKPD & QSP modelling you will serve a broad project portfolio of discovery projects including many different drug modalities within various therapeutic areas. You will define, develop and reinforce the PKPD strategy of discovery projects, including decisions on when and where to implement QSP and PBPK modelling, through your leadership and management of the department. You will be involved in the design, implementation and execution of QSP projects, having an overarching QSP expert role and be responsible for activities with collaborators and CROs. You and your team will also deliver scientific expertise on PKPD aspects and knowledge of drug development. You will work closely with, and hand over, the PKPD responsibility of the projects to our ‘Development PKPD’ department when the projects pass lead candidate selection.You will be an inspirational leader that coaches, motivates and develops PKPD scientists and QSP modellers. You will challenge status quo and nurture a research environment that encourages creativity, innovation and collaboration among scientists from different disciplines and organisations, and you will prioritise modelling work for efficient utilization of resources. You will ensure a good collaborative environment with stakeholders inside and outside Novo Nordisk.The Head of Discovery PKPD & QSP modelling will be part of the DMPK & Nonclinical management leadership team.Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Biology or other disciplines related to quantitative biology/pharmacology, or equivalent experience with a strong emphasis on biopharmaceutical modelling and simulation is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills coupled with strong influence and leadership skills, preferably with line leadership experience
  • Strong collaborative mindset, being capable of working in a complex inter-disciplinary organization and having the personal power to lead, influence and to retain focus
  • Hands-on expertise and experience working with QSP modelling and use of PKPD in the Pharma industry or Biotech for 5 years
  • Proficiency and programming skills with modelling or analytical software (e.g. PK-Sim, R, Matlab/SimBiology, Python)
  • Understanding of pharmacokinetics and modelling software (i.e. Phoenix WinNonlin/NLME or equivalent)
  • Excellent understanding of theory, principles and statistical aspects of advanced mathematical modelling and simulation
  • Ability to translate, condense, summarize outcomes of modelling and simulation analyses into information that can be understood and invested by project teams
  • Ability and interest to learn new areas of biological sciences
  • Engagement and a positive mind-set, combined with a willingness to make a difference and walk the extra mile are personal competencies needed to be successful in this job
