Then you may be our new Director responsible for designing and executing new innovation outreach programmes. About the department Innovation Outreach is a growing team, charged with engaging and enabling early external innovation within Novo Nordisk’s main therapeutic and technology focus areas. Our ambition is to build relations and partnerships with the strongest scientific minds and innovators from academia and biotech, with a key focus on Europe and Asia. By allowing high-impact science and ideas from academia and biotech to be complemented by the drug discovery and development expertise of Novo Nordisk, we aim to join forces with the global innovation community to create tomorrow’s breakthrough medicines, to substantially improve the lives of people living with chronic disease. To reach these goals, the Innovation Outreach unit is responsible for designing and executing innovation outreach programmes and initiatives, including the Novo Nordisk academic fellowship programme (PhD and postdoc funding), as well as several new initiatives within the open innovation space, with the intent of providing funding, resources, offer knowhow and mentorship to external innovators and entrepreneurs working within Novo Nordisk’s key areas of interest, namely cardiometabolic disease, rare disorders and biopharmaceutical technologies and drug modalities. Check our page here The position The Director of Innovation Outreach supports and works in close collaboration with other members of the Innovation Outreach team and the Vice President of Innovation Outreach to design and implement outreach initiatives, in accordance with the strategy of the area. You will drive processes to ensure that Novo Nordisk Research & Early Development becomes an industry leader in supporting and incentivizing innovation within the core therapeutic and technology areas of Novo Nordisk. You will be building and deploying partnering programs to engage innovators within academic institutions, biotech, and the life science entrepreneur communities of Europe and Asia. Innovation Outreach is an evolving area and you will therefore play a key role in building and shaping new activities and programs. These efforts will include opportunity scouting in regional innovation hotspots, orchestration of funding and support for life science entrepreneurs, and developing engagement and outreach activities, tailored to position Novo Nordisk as the early innovation partner of choice, within our core scientific areas. Securing tangible outcomes including early innovation collaborations with potential to deliver pipeline assets, translational and technological capabilities, and knowledge from defined strategic partnerships will be one of the key deliverables. Your main responsibilities will be: To drive and provide support for the design and development of new outreach initiatives To search and identify top-tier innovation “hotspots”, partners and institutions for realizing strategic aspirations in collaborative constellations within academia, life science incubators/accelerators, biotech, venture communities with a focus on Europe and Asia Day-to-day contact with external partners within academic institutions, biotech, and industry peers, as appropriate, with the scope of operationalizing outreach campaigns and initiatives Proactively engage relevant internal stakeholders, to capture and secure successful integration of outreach campaigns within the R&ED organization You can look forward to a broad range of exciting challenges that have senior management attention feeding into your personal and professional development. Qualifications We are looking for an ambitious and proactive colleague who can contribute to the team both professionally and personally. The ideal candidate will have: PhD degree in life science/natural science, followed by significant experience in the pharma or biotech industry Solid professional experience with innovation scouting, sourcing, business development and/or open innovation at the global scene Knowledge of state-of-the-art innovation practices, in particular knowledge of open innovation Deep knowledge of the drug development process with broad scientific insight spanning both technological and biological disciplines Exceptional interpersonal skills for building relationships with scientists and other stakeholders with diverse profiles at multiple organizational levels Proficiency in both spoken and written English As a person, you enjoy taking initiative and have a strong personal drive and dedication, and you have an entrepreneurial mindset. You have the big picture in mind, you dare to challenge the status quo, think out of the box and are strongly motivated to explore new ideas and methods in driving innovation for the benefit of our patients.
