Do you have hands-on wet lab experience in de-novo biomarker discovery and biomarker qualification? Are you passionate about leading a department consisting of scientists and technicians? Would you like to play a key role in helping Novo Nordisk to de-risk an expanding early drug development portfolio consisting of new and exciting mechanisms of action with biomarkers? Then you might be the new Director of the Biomarker Identification department in Novo Nordisk. The position As Director of Biomarker Identification, you will report to the Vice President of Translational Research and lead a department consisting of 10+ scientists and technicians. You will be a member of the Translational Research leadership team where you will contribute to developing and executing the functional Translational Research strategy. We would like to leverage the opening of this position to re-evaluate how we go about de-novo biomarker discovery & qualification of biomarkers for their implementation in pre-clinical and early clinical development. Hence, you will have the opportunity to shape the direction and influence of the Biomarker Identification department upon your first day. You will develop and execute functional strategy for the Biomarker Identification department thereby ensuring scientific excellence in methods & technologies applied in the department. Another key responsibility will be to build a strong network with internal stakeholders and external collaborators in biomarker identification and qualification fields. Qualifications You hold PhD or master’s degree in a discipline relevant to pharma R&D and have at least 8 years of experience in pharma R&D, the biotechnology industry, or academia. In addition, we expect you to have:
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in wet lab-driven de-novo biomarker discovery and qualification
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience, whether direct or indirect
  • Experience in establishing strategic collaborations with external partners and integrating external innovation into internal projects
  • Experience in developing & implementing functional strategies
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders at all levels across the organization, including the Executive Vice President management team. About the department The Biomarker Identification department was established in late 2021 and is part of the Translational Research VP area. Currently, the department consists of more than 10 scientists and technicians. Other departments in Translational Research include Biomarker Assay Development, MS Proteomics, and experts in molecular imaging. In Translational Research, we are committed to identifying biomarkers and generating high-quality biomarker data to guide decision-making in research & development. Translational Research is part of Global Translation, an organizational area responsible for the application of translational approaches across all the therapy areas in Novo Nordisk. Our ambitious goal is to ensure early, data-driven decision-making in clinical trials by application of target engagement, proof-of-mechanism, and proof-of-principle/concept biomarkers as well as enabling precision medicine.
