The position
As the Head of Research Engineering Director, you will lead a talented team of researchers and engineers, shaping the strategic direction of our research efforts and driving the development of cutting-edge technologies.
Key responsibilities are:
  • Developing and leading Research Engineering (RE) strategies that aligns with the overall goals of Artificial Intelligence & Digital Research (i.e., AIDR) CVP area;
  • Collaborating with other AIDR units, especially the Science Excellence Units, and teams across R&ED and Development (data science), to identify areas where RE can be leveraged to support drug discovery
  • Working with the CVP areas (namely Machine Intelligence and Science Excellence Units), to drive the delivery of the cross-VP strategy related to RE.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest developments in RE and related technologies and identifying opportunities for their application for AIDR use cases.
  • Co-creating with Machine Intelligence and Science Excellence Units to oversee the development of AI-based tools and platforms that can be used across AIDR and Novo Nordisk
  • Overseeing the managing and mentoring the RE team, ensuring adherence industry standards, best practices, and ethical guidelines in the development and deployment of solutions.
  • Leading Organizational growth and change management, new talent hires, communication, training, and development to maximize the use of Machine Intelligence across AIDR and Novo Nordisk.
  • Develop and implement Engineering best practices to AI drug discovery projects.
  • Collaborate with IT and other key stakeholder group to define AI compute road map and stratgey.
  • Organizational growth change management and building the department.
  • AIDR LT participation to set the overall global strategy for the CVP area.
  • Developing strategies, frameworks and platforms to enable productization of data science.
  • Qualifications
    As a person, you are a role model with regards to flexibility and change preparedness, coaching/monitoring line managers and ad-hoc mentoring to others. Therefore, you come with an effective communication style.
    The most relevant requirements we aim you to have are:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, data science, statistics or physics. An advanced degree in machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer engineering or familiarity with research methodologies and experimental design is a plus. An experience in data management, data warehousing, big data, and distributed computing is required.
  • Extensive experience leading teams of data engineers, MLOps engineers, and data wranglers in a research environment with a strong understanding of machine learning and data science concepts, as well as experience working with various ML frameworks and tools.
  • Proven track record of implementing and managing MLOps processes and pipelines, including data management, model training and deployment, and monitoring and maintenance.
  • Experience working with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and distributed data storage systems.
  • Strong experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, and experience building and deploying models on these platforms.
  • Experience with software development processes, including Agile and Scrum, and experience working with version control systems such as Git with strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    The AI and Digital Research department is a global, multidisciplinary team that puts AI at the centre of drug discovery. The department takes a human-centric approach to drug discovery, utilizing cutting-edge data science, machine learning, and engineering techniques to identify novel targets, biomarkers, and new drugs. By doing so, they aim to accelerate the drug discovery process and unlock a deeper understanding of disease and treatment outcomes.
    Through close collaboration with other departments and teams across the organization, the AI and Digital Research department works to bring innovative therapies to patients more quickly and improve the lives of those living with chronic conditions. With a focus on putting AI at the forefront of drug discovery, the department is dedicated to revolutionizing the pharmaceutical industry and bringing life-changing treatments to those who need them most.
