We are looking to hire a talented Principal Scientist to help us address the immunology challenges that come with the development of gene-modified cell lines for therapeutic applications. This position is based in the Cell Engineering department within the Cell Therapy R&D unit at Novo Nordisk. The position We are looking for a Principal Scientist who is ready to take on a position to support our efforts to progress stem cell-based therapies towards clinical development, focused primarily on type 1 diabetes, chronic heart failure, and Parkinson’s disease. You will be part of a unique innovative and collaborative culture in Cell Therapy R&D, where you will work as part of a dedicated and supportive team, and with a high degree of autonomy and empowerment in your daily tasks. Your main responsibilities will include: Generating in vitro proof-of-concept data to support the development of genome-modified, hypoimmunogenic allogeneic cell therapy products.
Designing, implementing and overseeing of various in vitro and in vivo studies depending on the needs of the project.
Investigating methods and technologies for the rapid advancement of projects and performing scientific analyses for results interpretation and presentation.
Training, mentorship and supervision of colleagues across all levels.
Contributing towards developing the research agenda.
Working across various projects and collaboratively to build relationships with wider in-house immunology expertise across Novo Nordisk.
Qualifications As a Principal Scientist, you have a PhD degree in Immunology or a related field with 5+ years of relevant post-doctorate or industry experience. You have deep knowledge of human immunology including the alloimmune terrain and immunologic responses to allogeneic cell delivery and engraftment. To succeed in this position you have: Preferably an understanding of Diabetes disease biology.
Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting experiments involving state of the art techniques within the areas of immunology, biochemistry and molecular biology.
Documented experience in the development and optimization of cellular immunology co-culture assays (incl. immune cell and complement cytotoxicity or phagocytosis assays).
Experience with flow cytometry, live cell imaging (Incucyte, xCelligence), cytokine assays (ELISA/MSD) and RT-qPCR.
Experience with antibody/bead-based cell selection systems (FACS/MACS).
Experience with mouse models for human cell therapy engraftment studies and working with primary human blood samples.

You have excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. In addition, you have the ability to work in a team-oriented and multidisciplinary environment. About the department The Department of Cell Engineering is a dynamic, technology driven department, part of Cell Therapy R&D, a Transformational Research Unit (TRU) within Novo Nordisk. The TRU is unique in the sense that it covers the full R&D value chain, which means we function as an integrated unit, spanning from early research to GMP manufacturing and clinical development in the same organisation. Our department is part of the Research organization based in Måløv, Denmark and we are experts in stem cell culture, genome editing, differentiation, characterization, and both in vitro and in vivo functional assessment.
