The positionAs the Head of Recombinant Drug Discovery, you will set the direction for three departments working in early discovery and engineering for a portfolio of recombinant biopharmaceuticals. You will ensure highly innovative scientific research is applied with a strong business fit. Your contributions in this role will advance projects from the early start, along the value chain, and potentially all the way to market.As a member of the Recombinant Drug Research leadership team, you will represent your area to stakeholders across the broader organization. You will inspire and motivate your team to build and maintain a culture of transparency, open-mindedness, trust, and agility.Your main responsibilities will include the following: Provide people and scientific leadership as a role model to a reporting team of three leaders Set the strategic direction for the area and ensure an inspiring and motivating working environment with a focus on clear priorities, individual empowerment, and responsibility for defined areas Ensure and lead the implementation of state-of-the-art expertise and technical capabilities in the field of antibody/biologics discovery, screening and display technologies, and fully automated laboratory platforms Secure focus on identification and evaluation of external collaboration opportunities that add value to our portfolio, expertise, and/or operational agility Engage actively in securing cross-functional and seamless collaboration across therapy, drug discovery, and computational areas Motivate project innovation, contribute to internal project proposals, and provide expert input in evaluation of external opportunities Represent RDD and present relevant biologic discovery know-how in various internal committees As a member of the RDR leadership team, contribute to driving the strategic agenda and ensuring organizational effectiveness in close liaison with its many stakeholders QualificationsTo be a successful candidate we expect you to have: A Ph.D. in natural sciences or life sciences with at least 10 years of experience in drug design and discovery, and profound people leadership experience, preferably from the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry Proven, excellent people leadership skills with a focus on building a team culture based on successful and respectful collaboration involving stakeholders across a global organization Extensive domain knowledge within cutting-edge antibody/biologics discovery and associated technologies, including in vivo and in vitro antibody technologies, protein & peptide display technologies, microfluidics, and antibody/protein engineering. Previous experience with large-scale automation is considered an advantage Knowledge of a broad spectrum of therapeutic modalities in biologics Understanding of biological and disease-related concepts behind drug targeting as well as understanding of the full drug development value chain As a person, you: Are a strong team player who displays excellent collaboration and communication skills Are committed to creating teams that win through collaboration with other teams Have a proactive, creative, and visible leadership style and the ability to set a clear direction in a complex environment Are known and respected for your personal and proactive engagement, drive, independence, personal integrity, and positive attitude About the department Recombinant Drug Discovery (RDD) is a key area within our collective efforts to build a rich pipeline, leveraging unique advantages of our biotherapeutic engineering technology platforms both internally and via external licenses and collaborations. RDD operates large-scale, fully automated platforms for discovery and optimization of biotherapeutic molecules. The area consists of 50+ scientists and technicians, who work in an inclusive and curiosity-driven work environment, where diversity is valued, and where we thrive and innovate with colleagues in a respectful and lively setting.RDD is a part of Recombinant Drug Research (RDR), where we collaborate across the full research value chain to discover and advance innovative recombinant protein and peptide therapeutic candidates.
