The position
As the Head of Development PKPD, you will lead a team of dedicated employees and serve a broad portfolio of research and non-clinical projects including various drug modalities within various therapeutic areas. You will define, develop and reinforce the PKPD strategy of the projects, including decisions on when and where to implement various types of PKPD modelling tools, through your leadership and management of the department. The Head of Development PKPD will be part of the DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics) and Modelling Sciences leadership team.
Some of your tasks will include but not limited to:
  • Being involved in the strategy and design of PK aspects of the projects, having an overarching PK expert role and be responsible for activities with collaborators and CROs
  • Together with the team, ensuring scientific expertise on PKPD aspects and knowledge of drug development
  • Collaborating closely with Discovery PKPD & QSP Modelling department and taking responsibility of the PKPD part of the projects when they progress towards lead candidate selection
  • Coaching, motivating and developing PKPD scientists
  • Nurturing an inspirational research environment that encourages creativity, innovation and collaboration among scientists from different disciplines and organizations and prioritizing modelling work for efficient utilization of resources
  • Ensuring a good collaborative environment with internal and external stakeholders
  • Qualifications
    You hold an advanced degree or PhD in physics, applied mathematics, engineering, biology or other disciplines related to quantitative biology/pharmacology. Alternatively, you have equivalent experience with a strong emphasis on biopharmaceutical modelling and simulation and preferably previous leadership experience. In addition, you have a strong collaborative mindset, ability to work in a complex interdisciplinary organization and the personal power to lead, influence and retain focus.
    Moreover, we expect you to have the following competencies:
  • More than 5 years of hands-on expertise and experience in working with PKPD modelling within pharma industry or biotech
  • Proficiency and programming skills with modelling or analytical software (i.e. PK-Sim, R, Matlab/SimBiology, Python)
  • Understanding of pharmacokinetics and modelling software (i.e. Phoenix WinNonlin/NLME or equivalent)
  • Excellent understanding of theory, principles and statistical aspects of advanced mathematical modelling and simulation
  • Ability to translate, condense and summarize the outcome of modelling and simulation analyses into information that can be understood and invested by project teams
  • Ability and interest to learn new areas of biological sciences
  • On a personal level, you can engage and have a positive mind-set, combined with a willingness to make a difference and walk the extra mile. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills coupled with strong influence and leadership skills. About the department
    Development PKPD is a department in ‘DMPK & Modelling Sciences’ within Research & Early Development at Novo Nordisk and the department consist of 10-12 scientists, lab tech and students. Development PKPD supports projects with pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) evaluation using PK and PKPD modelling starting from the non-clinical development to First in Human (FIH) studies. Our evaluation is essential to secure project progress. In the non-clinical development, the department is responsible for predicting human PK and PKPD, setting dose for FIH and reporting toxicokinetic to GLP as well as to give input to regulatory documents (e.g. IND, IMPD, NDA).
