Are you an experienced scientist in the field of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and Liver 3D Models? Do you have a deep passion for experimental biomarker discovery and qualification, driven by a thorough understanding of drug and disease mechanisms? Then this opportunity could be the perfect fit for you. Take the next step and apply today to become part of our committed team of international scientists. The position
As a Principal Scientist in Translational Research, you will be discovering and qualifying new biomarkers using human iPSC-derived 3D Liver Models to de-risk early clinical programs. The role offers exciting scientific opportunities, a significant level of autonomy, and the chance to work closely with peers throughout the entire translational value chain. In this position you will:
  • Implement hIPSC-based liver models to profile Target Engagement (TE)-, Proof-of-Mechanism (PoM)- and disease modulation biomarkers
  • Drive experimental biomarker discovery efforts using high throughput advanced 3D liver models
  • Foster close-knit collaboration with computational biologists / therapy area experts and leverage the liver disease biology knowledge to deliver qualified biomarkers in translational project teams
  • Mentor, train and develop junior colleagues while providing strong guidance and expertise in iPSC/liver biology and biomarker discovery
  • Map scientific and technology gaps in the area and lead strategic collaborations /partnerships to complement internal biomarker discovery and qualification efforts

  • Qualifications You hold a Ph.D. in Life Sciences with several years of research experience in using human iPSC-based Liver Models for biomarker discovery within metabolic diseases, part of the expertise derived from drug discovery experience in pharma, biotech, or academia. To thrive and succeed in the role, you bring:
  • Hands-on-experience in the maintenance, manipulation, and differentiation of hiPSCs towards liver cell types
  • Demonstrated expertise in culturing primary human hepatocytes and other liver cell types in 3D environment such as microphysiological systems, spheroids and organoids as well as in precision cut liver slices
  • It would be advantageous if you have:
  • Experience in high throughput screening using nucleic acid sequencing-based technologies such as RNA-sequencing (bulk, single-cell, and spatial), DNA methylation and Olink for biomarker discovery
  • Experience with PoM and disease modulation biomarkers
  • Strong data analysis and integration skills, including proficiency in R packages, AI tools, gene-set/ pathway analysis and data visualization software, to work with large biological datasets such as transcriptomics and proteomics as well as extract and integrate information from external databases / published literature (e.g., HPA, GTEX, Tabula Sapiens)
  • As a person, you exhibit a strong translational mindset, exceptional networking skills, a proactive approach, and outstanding communication abilities. Being a dedicated team player is a key attribute we are seeking in potential candidates. About The Department At the Biomarker Discovery & Qualification department, we discover and qualify TE, PoM and disease modulation biomarkers. We employ human in vitro / ex vivo systems and in vivo animal models as well as apply omics technologies to generate high-quality biomarker data to guide decision-making in research and early development. Currently, the department consists of 9 scientists and is part of the Translational Research VP area. Other departments in Translational Research include Biomarker Assay Development, Omics Technologies and Translational Imaging. Translational Research is part of Global Translation, an organisational area responsible for the application of translational approaches across all the therapy areas in Novo Nordisk. Our ambitious goal is to ensure early, data-driven decision-making in clinical trials by application of target engagement, proof-of-mechanism, and disease modulation biomarkers as well as enabling precision medicine. Global Translation is part of Novo Nordisk´s Research & Early Development and is located in Måløv, Greater Copenhagen.
