A combined position as Clinical Professor or Clinical Associate Professor in Adult Psychiatry and as Consultant in Adult Psychiatry is vacant at The Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and at The Mental Health Services, The Psychiatric Services in The Region of Southern Denmark, Esbjerg.
The position is limited to a five-year period with the possibility of extension. Allocation of time between the clinical professorship/ clinical associate professorship and the consultancy is 50 % / 50 %.
The successful candidate and future clinical professor/ clinical associate professor will be appointed at The Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU. The consultant will be appointed at The Psychiatric Department, The Mental Health Services, The Psychiatric Services in The Region of Southern Denmark, Esbjerg.
The Department of Regional Health Research
The Department of Regional Health Research supports research in relation to the person as a whole, the good life and the more common diseases, makes out a platform for scientists and educators, and builds a bridge between The University of Southern Denmark, The Region of Southern Denmark, The Region of Zealand, the hospitals in the two regions, and the patient. The department focuses on the continuity of patient care across sectors, hospitals, and specialist fields.
The Psychiatric Department, Esbjerg
The Psychiatric Department, Esbjerg is part of The Mental Health Services, The Psychiatric Services in the Region of Southern Denmark which have received acknowledgement of high-quality research and education and is part of The University Hospital of Southern Denmark.
The department treats adults above the age of 20 years with various psychiatric diagnoses and consists of round-the-clock treatment in the in-patient wards, the local psychiatry in Brørup, Varde and Esbjerg, and in one emergency department.
Patients are treated at both open and locked wards and the clinical area also includes forensic psychiatry and patients with dual diagnoses. The Psychiatric Department in Esbjerg focuses on multidisciplinary treatment and has a close collaboration with the somatic area.
The university position
The new professor must have a strong record inside the field of adult psychiatry research and must ensure that the research unit attracts substantial research funding from external sources in relation to the research program in question.
The clinical professor/ clinical associate professor will be Head of Research and will have the opportunity to establish and further develop his or her own research area within Adult Psychiatry. Additionally, the future Head of Research will have the chance to set up his or her own team through the resources allocated for research.
Research tasks, supervision, and teaching
The successful applicant will be responsible for initiating and developing clinical research in the selected area and for implementing the results in close collaboration with the management of the departments. The professor will also be responsible for establishing and expanding research collaboration inside the region as well as nationally and internationally.
The clinical professor/ clinical associate professor will be expected to perform supervisions function for PhD-graduates and teach undergraduate students. Furthermore, the professor will be expected to participate in the teaching and the instruction atthe new master's programme in Medicine in Esbjerg.
The clinical position
The content of the clinical part of the job may vary depending on the applicant’s professional background, experience, and qualifications e.g. current Danish language skills. Both clinical and research duties must have a strong and inherent connection and must be discussed and established with the hospital management.

In clinical and financial matters, the clinical professor/ clinical associate professor and Head of Research refers to the departmental management. In research matters, he or she refers to the university's Head of Department through the Coordinative Head of Research.
Expectations of qualifications
The successful candidate will be expected to have
Good collaborative skills interdisciplinary as well as nationally and internationally are a precondition in connection with the development of the research. Established international collaboration is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Salary and terms of employment
The successful applicant for the clinical professorship or clinical associate professorship will be employed in accordance with the agreement between The Ministry of Finance and AC (The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
The consultant will be employed in accordance with the collective agreement for consultants.

- A PhD- or equivalent degree and must be a qualified specialist in adult psychiatry
- Research experience documented by publications in international peer-reviewed journal articles within psychiatry
- A documented record of teaching experience and teaching skills
- Proven research management skills
- Good collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Visions of how to further strengthen research in the department.
