Teaching Assistant Professor of Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences is seeking applications for a full-time position as a Teaching Assistant Professor in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. The position is available from September 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

As a Teaching Assistant professor, you will be part of the Surgery group, Section for Surgery, Neurology & Cardiology.

Job description

The primary focus of this position is to plan, coordinate, and execute teaching and clinical services within veterinary dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. The service works closely with all the University Hospital for Companion Animals services, especially general surgical and exotic medicine services.

Teaching duties include clinical teaching, lectures, and workshops, bachelor and veterinary thesis projects and course responsibility for veterinary pre- and postgraduate education. In addition, the applicant is expected, as part of the dentistry team, to develop further the clinical veterinary dentistry and maxillofacial surgery discipline, including developing teaching material based on animal patient cases and implementing online teaching, teaching materials and exam formats for both pre- and postgraduate education in veterinary dentistry and maxillofacial surgery.

In addition to teaching, the applicant will participate in the development, teaching and examination of the postgraduate Master, Companion Animal Clinical Sciences programs. While not a requirement, the applicant is encouraged to engage in patient recruitment and other research-supporting activities, and potentially serve as a clinical coordinator for relevant research projects.
As a teaching assistant professor, your main responsibility will be to provide clinical and theoretical teaching to veterinary students, residents and post-graduate master’s students in companion animal dentistry and maxillofacial surgery, as well as interact with and assist faculty in developing further teaching strategies and implementing technology-driven teaching solutions. Additionally, the teaching assistant professor can be responsible for relevant pre- and postgraduate veterinary dentistry and maxillofacial surgery courses.

The section actively collaborates widely within and across other sections.

The dentistry and maxillofacial surgery team consists of both veterinarians and veterinary technicians who provide an extensive range of examinations and treatments for both first opinion and referral patients. Veterinary dentistry and maxillofacial surgery is a core discipline in the clinical veterinary curriculum as part of veterinary education in Denmark. In addition, final-year students choosing the companion animal track are offered practical clinical companion animal dentistry rotations within their coursework.
