Frederiksberg

Do you want to contribute with new knowledge on the impact of early life factors on respiratory health? Do you have an interest in working with epidemiology, causal inference, and large register-based data? If so, you could be the new PhD or postdoc in our team.

The Section for Epidemiology is looking for a PhD or postdoctoral researcher starting July 1, 2023 or according to agreement.

The project

The overall objective is to fill the gap in our knowledge of how early life risk factors (vaccinations, mode of delivery, and body size) impact later lung function and risk of chronic respiratory diseases by utilizing natural experiments and unique population-based and registry-based data from Denmark and Sweden. You will work closely with the research team and collaborate with internal and external collaborators. The project is founded by the Karen Elise Jensen Foundation.

Your role

You will conduct all parts of three epidemiological research projects from initial ideas to final published research papers and communication of the results to relevant stakeholders. This includes the following major responsibilities:

  • Data crunching and statistical analyses
  • Exploration of methodology
  • Discussion and contextualization of the relevant existing literature
  • Communicating the research results, e.g., writing scientific manuscripts

Depending on your qualifications and interests there will be possibilities for e.g. international research stays, grant applications to expand the research programme, supervision, various communication tasks, leading study groups, and teaching. You will interact with researchers from various scientific disciplines (including biostatistics, epidemiology, health promotion and medicine) and actively contribute to the research environment in the Center.

What we offer

  • A high degree of influence on the structure and content of your work
  • Engaged supervision/sparing in a safe environment with researchers from various academic and scientific backgrounds in an internationally recognized research environment
  • Flexibility in planning working hours as subject to agreement
  • A culture characterized by collaboration and high scientific standards
  • Opportunity for tailored professional development.

Qualifications

  • For the postdoctoral position, a higher degree (PhD or MD) and for the PhD student position a Masters in e.g. epidemiology, public health, statistics, economics, biological sciences, or medicine
  • Self-driven and motivated to acquire in-depth knowledge of register data, epidemiology, and respiratory health
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English
  • Preferably experience with Stata, SAS and/or R.

Place of employment

The position is currently vacant at the Section for Epidemiology, Center for Clinical Research and Prevention, Frederiksberg Hospital, Nordre Fasanvej 57, Entrance 5, 2000 Frederiksberg, Denmark.

The Center for Clinical Research and Prevention is an ambitious and internationally recognized research center with expertise in population-based epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, biostatistics, and health promotion and disease prevention. Our overall goal is to contribute to a healthier population through improving disease prevention and treatment, and by promoting physical, mental and social wellbeing. More information at CKFF.

Terms of employment

The position is full time and limited to 2 years (postdoctoral position) or 3 years (PhD position) with the possibility of extension. Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Region’s Board for Wages and Tariffs and the relevant trade organization.

  • a cover letter specifying if you are applying for a PhD or a postdoctoral position and addressing your fit for the position according to each of the listed qualifications (1 page max)
