The National Institute of Public Health at SDU is looking for applicants for a PhD scholarship within the field of health geographics – pesticides in drinking water and leukaemia.

We are looking for a person with a relevant degree (MD, MSc. etc.)

Research environment
The research group in Geographical and Register-based Epidemiology is an interdisciplinary co-operation among researchers in epidemiology, public health, medicine, geo-informatics and statistics.
The research group conducts research to examine geographical patterns in disease and to discover environmental and neighbourhood risk factors associated with diseases.

Project description
The successful candidate will work within the research project Pesticides in drinking water and incidence of Leukaemia, funded by the Karen Elise Jensens Foundation and University of Southern Denmark.
The overall purpose of the project is to examine associations between pesticides in drinking water and blood cancer.
The PhD project will focus on the association between selected components of pesticides in drinking water and the risk of development of specific blood cancers.
The PhD student will be expected to shape the specific direction of the research project in collaboration with the supervisor.

Qualifications
We are looking for a dynamic candidate with a background and/or experience within public health, informatics, geography or statistics.
The candidate should have good written and oral communication skills.
Experience with geographical analyses, modelling components in drinking water or cancer is highly meriting.
Experience using the R, SAS or STATA statistical programming language and working within a team of international collaborators would also be an advantage.

Successful candidates will be asked to send an application to the PhD Secretariat, Faculty of Health Sciences, to be enrolled as PhD students.

The PhD programme will be carried out in accordance with Faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order)

The terms of employment as a salaried PhD Research Fellow are stated in the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
