The University seeks to appoint a professor of Personalised Medicine to the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology to commence as soon as possible.

Job description

The Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology (www.drug.ku.dk) has a strategic focus on personalised medicine and therefore offers a faculty position as Professor within this area. The Department is engaged in interdisciplinary research, teaching and innovation within the pharmaceutical sciences. We strive for high quality, and wishes to recruit a candidate able to document activity at an international level in all of these aspects. We aim to appoint a Professor with one or more of the following qualifications: (i) expertise in technological platforms underlying personalised medicine (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and/or lipidomics) with capacity to traverse problems involving clinical challenges, (ii) expertise in state-of-the-art model systems including mouse models, human organoids, or single cell technologies, (iii) potential to develop and implement a multidisciplinary research program addressing personalised medicine strategies and moving toward clinical applications, (iv) training and documented expertise in teaching in drug discovery, or related areas, and (v) demonstrated skills to initiate and participate in collaborative science involving scientists with diverse expertise, which is crucial given the highly multidisciplinary nature of modern-day research within the pharmaceutical sciences.

The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including dissemination of results to the scientific community (e. g. by publishing in scientific journals and developing clinical guidelines ) and to the general public.
  • Develop, organize and conduct research-based teaching within the field of pharmacotherapy
  • Engage in outreach and innovation activities towards academia and industry nationally and internationally
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Share knowledge with the rest of society, including engagement with stakeholders for a specific focus on personalized medicine.
  • Strategic focus on and implementation of personalised medicine into the departments research portefolio
  • Contribute to department management
  • Academic assessments

Required documented qualifications

The successful applicant should be able to:

  • Document an outstanding degree of original academic production at the highest international level witin the areas detailed above (i to v). This includes considerable contributions to multiple strategic focus areas of the Department, specifically: development of the academic discipline Personalised Medicine including teaching in an interdisciplinary and innovative pharmaceutical science-setting.
  • Document research leadership including management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s internal and external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
  • Develop, organise and conduct research-based teaching
  • Document engagement in innovation activities
  • Expertise in studying diseases of high societal impact (e.g. cancer)

The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2019).
