Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

The Jensen group at BRIC and DanStem has an open postdoc position for a highly motivated and talented researcher to study the role of stem cells in tissue regeneration. We are recruiting for a 3-year position and we are looking for candidates, who will be able to join our team during summer 2021. The recruited postdoc will work closely with other members of our highly international team to address the role of specific cell populations in colonic tissue regeneration as well as signalling pathways involved in tissue repair using state-of-the-art methodologies such single-cell RNA sequencing, organoids, quantitative fate mapping based on 3D imaging and genetic mouse models.

Our research/The group
The epithelial tissues along our entire body have to establish an important barrier to protect from the hostile environment. This is achieved via the balanced production of differentiated offspring from resident stem cell populations. Dysregulation of this fine balance lies at the root of diseases such as ulceration and cancer. In the Jensen lab we use a combination of animal models and patient derived material to address fundamental questions related to the formation, maintenance and regeneration of epithelial tissues. Here we use a range of interdisciplinary approaches and technologies to identify and characterize candidate genes regulating cell fate changes (Wong et al., 2012, Nature Cell Biology; Fordham et al., 2013, Cell Stem Cell; Page et al., 2013; Yui et al., 2018, Cell Stem Cell; Cell Stem Cell; Guiu et al., 2019, Nature; Andersen et al., 2019, Nature Cell Biology).

Your job
We are looking for an ambitious postdoctoral candidate with a strong background in cellular and molecular biology. You will take part in an interdisciplinary project aimed at deciphering the cellular responses following tissue damage and during tissue regeneration. You will collaborate with other members of the Jensen team to address these fundamental questions using single-cell expression analysis, quantitative fate mapping, organoid models and various genetic mouse models. Here we will take advantage of established and optimised tools and technologies (Yui et al., 2018, Cell Stem Cell; Guiu et al., 2019, Nature) and complement this with your experience and expertise.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You are a highly self-motivated and ambitious scientist
  • You have a PhD in Life Sciences
  • You have an excellent track record with at least 1 peer reviewed first author paper in a high-impact journal
  • You have a strong background in cellular and molecular biology, and experience working with animal models is seen as a strong advantage
  • You have the ability to independently envision, plan and execute a research project
  • You have excellent technical skills
  • You have excellent English skills written and spoken
