We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 12-month position, who will investigate the interplay between metabolism and DNA damage to commence 1 February 2022 or soon thereafter.

The project investigate how metabolism is changed in a premature aging disorder.

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) offers an ambitious scientific environment, with many different nationalities represented. ICMM aims to produce research with high international impact focusing on the functional cell, its genetic components and molecular cellular mechanisms in a medical context. ICMM currently comprises five research programmes, three high profile Research Centers as well as a number of international research groups.
The scientists at ICMM are involved in high quality research based undergraduate and graduate teaching programs at the University of Copenhagen.

Our research
The Scheibye-Knudsen group is part of the Center for Healthy Aging, University of Copenhagen in the Mærsk Tower. In addition to this post doc position, the group comprises of 4 assistant professors, 1 postdoctoral researcher and 3 PhD students with extensive in silico, in vitro and in vivo expertise utilizing animal models, gene editing, and in high throughput approaches such as high content microscopy and omics investigations. Lab generated data is routinely analyzed through AI-assisted pipelines such as novel cellular senescence classifiers and fully automated animal tracking. In addition, logistical aspects are already in place to promote the successful and rapid implementation of our program, including mouse facilities, fly labs and cell culture labs. Ethical protocols, licenses, equipment, staff expertise and breeding protocols are therefore already well-established at the University of Copenhagen.

Your job
Your role will be to investigate how DNA damage impacts metabolism in Drosophila Melanogaster, mouse models and cell cultures. It is expected that you also contribute to the teaching activities of the institute.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD with a focus on DNA damage and Metabolism.
  • You are highly experienced in working with animal models, computer vision-based algorithms and cell culture work.
  • You have an active interest in aging.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken.

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience in DNA damage investigations.
  • Experience in machine learning.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time (37 working hours per week in average) and fixed-term position for 1 year. Starting date is 1 February 2022 or soon thereafter.

Salary, pension, and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at DKK 31,065 / approx. EUR 4,175 (October 2021-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
