We are looking for an experienced and motivated Staff Scientist (Academic Research Employee) with experience in metabolic research to start March 15, 2022, or after agreement.

Our research
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010 and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.

Our group and research
The Gillum Group characterizes hormones and metabolites generated via the gut, gut microbiota, and liver that govern host metabolism and appetite. We identify the receptors and cellular targets through which they exert their beneficial or detrimental effects with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic possibilities. Your job
The candidate will generate and analyse host-microbiome multi-omics data from ongoing studies devising small-molecule based approaches to treat non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and other inflammatory disorders, including neurodegeneration.

Your profile
Criteria:

  • Master’s degree in biological sciences-related discipline
  • Experience with in vivo research and study design as well as metabolic phenotyping techniques (e.g., indirect calorimetry systems)
  • Must have solid experience with mouse stereotaxic surgery for viral injections and brain cannulations as well as rodent handling, administration techniques (oral gavage, IP, SC), and tissue/organ/blood sampling expertise
  • Experience with rodent perfusion and cryosectioning of tissue for immunohistochemistry
  • Wet lab experience including genotyping, RNA extraction, qPCR, etc.
  • FELASA C/EU function ABD course or equivalent
  • A strong understanding of relevant metabolic diseases
  • Strong collaborative skills: ability to share knowledge and expertise, and support to a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Place of employment
The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Maersk Tower, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment as Staff Scientist (Academic Research Employee) is a full-time fixed-term position for 2,5 years. Starting date is March 15, 2022, or after agreement.

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
