København N

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher who will join the skin inflammation and cancer group as post doc in a full-time position in three years to commence on 1 July 2024.

The appointee is expected to conduct research into the role of skin inflammation and bacteria and the role of ROS in the pathogenesis and treatment of cutaneous T-cell malignancies.

Information on the Department can be found at: https://isim.ku.dk

Our research
Our visionis to stop the chronic inflammation and break the immune privilege (tolerance) of cancers.

Our goalis to discover novel molecular disease targets, innovative therapies, and ways to modify the immune system to fight disease.

Our missionis to unravel how disturbances in the immune defense lead to chronic inflammatory skin diseases and cancer.

We perform basic and translational research and have close collaborations with clinicians at dermatology departments in Denmark, EU, and USA. We take an interdisciplinary approach to science and are collaborating with a large national and international network of researchers in areas such as immunology, microbiology, pharmacy, bioinformatics, cancer biology and veterinary and clinical medicine. We believe in teamwork and have an inclusive and supportive working environment in an international, open-minded atmosphere with a diversity of nationalities among group members and at the Department at large.

Your job
Our primary interests are skin inflammation, bacteria and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL), which is characterized by the presence of malignant T-cells in chronically inflamed skin. We focus on inflammatory skin responses, cytokine signaling, novel oncogenic pathways, cellular heterogeneity at the single cell level, crosstalk between malignant and non-malignant skin cells, and the role of bacterial products, metabolites, and toxins fueling chronic inflammation, malignant transformation and disease progression. We are particularly interested in the regulation and impact of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) on the pathogenesis and the interplay with bacteria. Your tasks would be to conduct research into the role of skin inflammation in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and the implications for the pathogenesis and drug resistance in cutaneous T-cell malignancies. These tasks involve tissue culture of primary cells, single cell transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics, high-level multi-parameter flow-cytometry and cell sorting, and analysis of large sets of data and well as functional studies in vitro and in vivo of malignant and non-malignant T-cells and their interactions with stromal cells and keratinocytes.

The postdoc’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties.
  • research-based teaching.
  • sharing knowledge with society.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in immunology.
  • You are highly experienced in working with models of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, human skin models, signal transduction, and tissue culture of primary human T-cells.
  • You have experience from publishing in recognized international, peer reviewed journals.
  • You have an active interest in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, ROS, redox-regulated processes, inflammatory. skin disorders, and bacterial toxins and their effect on malignant or non-malignant T-cells.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken.

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience from working with ex vivo sorting of diverse human T-cell subsets, and co-culture models.
  • You have experience working with single cell transcriptomics using the 10X platform, high-level multi-parameter flow-cytometry, and/or proteomics.
  • International research experience e.g. from being visiting scientist, research fellow, or as part of your PhD or similar.
  • Experience from working with protein kinases and subcellular localization.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen.
