Department of nutrition, exercise and sports

University of Copenhagen
We are seeking an assistant professor in cardiovascular physiology for a two-year position to lead research projects related to cardiovascular regulation in health and disease. Our research group runs several research projects in which the use of advanced invasive procedures are the corner stone. These studies include mechanistical study of metabolic and vascular function in clinical- and experimental sepsis in collaboration with local hospitals on cardiovascular function as well as the study of female-specific exercise performance and physiology.
The successful candidate has a background with a PhD in medicine or physiology, experience as post-doctoral researcher and have extensive experience with heading invasive human experiments. This includes experience with writing successful grant applications and ethical approvals, coordination and execution of human trials with invasive procedures as well as analysis of human samples and tissue. In addition, the candidate has experience with gold-standard techniques to measure whole-body, organ-, and tissue- specific energy expenditure and metabolism (e.g., by doubly labeled water, arterial-venous substrate balance, and mitochondrial respiration).
The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within exercise physiology. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research; their ability to attract external funding and outreach qualifications; their documented teaching and supervision qualifications and experience.
Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organizational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.
