Assistant Professor of Molecular Immunology at LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center (SIC), Department of Immunology and Microbiology,Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic assistant professor who has extensive experience in molecular immunology for a 3 year position to commence 1 October 2024.
You will undertake research that focusses on the role of the ubiquitin machinery in immune regulation and inflammation using genetically modified mouse models and cells derived from the animals. You will be expected to supervise junior group members and to participate in teaching activities
Information on the department can be found at: https://isim.ku.dk/research/
Our research
We aim to uncover novel molecular mechanisms that regulate inflammation and immune responses. Through this, we aim to advance our understanding of the molecular aetiology of inflammatory skin diseases and other immune disorders.
A central focus of our research is to elucidate the role and regulation of the ubiquitin system, which plays a central role in regulating inflammation and immune responses in the skin and other organs/tissues. The ubiquitin system is an emerging drug target and through detailed studies of the molecular mechanisms underpinning ubiquitin-based immune signalling, we aim to identify “druggable” molecular processes that ultimately may have clinical benefit in the treatment of skin diseases and other immune-driven pathologies.
We believe in teamwork and have an inclusive and supportive working environment in an international, open-minded atmosphere with a diversity of nationalities among group members and at the Department at large.
Your job
You will undertake research that focusses on the role of the ubiquitin machinery in regulating the immune system at a cellular levels and at the level of intracellular molecular signalling processes, and how these mechanisms impinge on acute and chronic inflammation. The project involves extensive characterisation of genetically modified mice and the use of experimental models to trigger immune-related pathologies such as skin inflammation and colitis.
The long-term goal of the group’s research is to identify molecular processes that underlie immune-driven pathologies and that can be targeted pharmacologically for treatment of skin diseases.
You will have documented experience in cellular and molecular immunology, experimental mouse models, generation of genetically modified mice, signal transduction, and ubiquitin biology, and will have hands-on experience with a wide range of experimental methodologies including but not limited to experimental mouse model systems, advanced flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, confocal microscopy, basic and advanced biochemical, molecular, and cell biology techniques.
The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
