We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 2-year postdoctoral position, with the possibility of extension, to commence January 2025 or after agreement.

The position will be based in the Stewart-Morgan group at the Department for Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) within the University of Copenhagen. Information on the group can be found at: https://icmm.ku.dk/english/research-groups/stewart-morgan-group/

Our research
The focus of the Stewart-Morgan group is epigenetic dynamics and function in germ cell biology. We use both in vivo and in vitro systems of mammalian gametogenesis to study the role of the epigenome in germ cells and elucidate general epigenetic principles using this unique biological system. We strive for an open, collaborative and collegial work environment that provides ample mentorship and training opportunities to further each members’ individual career goals.

Your job
Your tasks will include designing experimental strategies, generation and analysis of complex datasets, and writing of scientific manuscripts. Additional tasks could include contributing to grant applications, research-based supervision of MSc and PhD students, teaching undergraduate courses, and outreach communication activities.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in life sciences or a similar field
  • You have experience in mouse model generation and mouse genetics
  • You have an active interest in epigenetics, genome regulation, or gametogenesis
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience in mouse embryology
  • Experience in embryonic stem cell culture and CRISPR/Cas9 methods
  • Experience in flow cytometry and/or imaging experimental design and analysis
  • Experience in bioinformatic analysis of functional genomics data sets (e.g., RNA-seq, bisulfite sequencing)
  • Experience in apoptosis
  • Previous publication as a first author


Scientific environment
The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) offers an ambitious scientific environment, with many different nationalities represented. ICMM aims to produce research with high international impact focusing on the functional cell, its genetic components, and molecular cellular mechanisms in a medical context. ICMM currently comprises five research programs, three high profile Research Centers as well as a number of international research groups. The place of employment is at the Medical Genetics program within the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories, dedicated facilities for flow cytometry, imaging, next-generation sequencing including single-cell genomics, and state-of-the-art embryology facilities for mouse and human research.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position for a period of 2 years, with the possibility of extension. The starting date is 1 January 2025 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,500 DKK/approx. 5,100 EUR (April 2024 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The further process
