DIIS invites applications for a permanent position as Senior Researcher of Global Development and Multilateralism starting 1 June 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
DIIS is expanding its expertise on global development and multilateralism, including the UN, the EU, the AU and the development banks. Therefore, we are searching for candidates with a proven track record of high academic standards within this research field. Ideally, the candidate is interested in and has substantial knowledge and experience from working on development cooperation as conducting policy studies related to development cooperation is part of the assignment. We prefer candidates who are at the forefront of their discipline and have a strong international network within the research field.
The position is aimed at candidates who have:
The candidate will contribute to the thematic and theoretical development of research, both within the relevant unit and across DIIS. The specific research and analysis field will be decided upon in collaboration with the relevant head of unit.
The candidate must have experience with publishing and communicating research results in an honest, transparent and accurate manner (in accordance with the Danish Code of Conduct for Research Integrity), and, preferably, also with disseminating the results, e.g. to the policy community.
DIIS’ senior researchers have excellent opportunities for developing and disseminating their research to their target groups, as 60 percent of the time is reserved for research, 20 percent for policy research and ad hoc work, and 20 percent for dissemination, administration and research education (e.g. supervision). Across the various types of tasks, one fifth of the time is to be spent on income-generating assignments, as external fundraising activities are a collective priority of the institute. Hence, documented results with and a willingness to actively pursue funding for research-based projects, consultancies etc. will be an advantage.

Our aspiration is to strengthen independent research on international affairs, and on the basis of this to provide analyses and recommendations on Denmark’s opportunities within the wider area of foreign, security and development policy. DIIS aims to be at the cutting edge of multidisciplinary research, policy analysis and communication on global affairs.
DIIS offers a dynamic and innovative international research environment with a focus on professionalism, flexibility and mutual respect amongst all colleagues. As the institute’s tasks are varied, with a wide-ranging scope of activities, we expect our staff to be flexible. DIIS is a bilingual Danish-English workplace. Contract and renumeration
The position as Senior Researcher is a permanent position starting 1 June 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. Remuneration and other job conditions follow the general agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and the Danish Ministry of Finance as well as local collective agreements at DIIS. Candidates from abroad may under certain conditions be eligible for a special researcher tax scheme.
