København Ø

We seek an applicant with a background in computational biophysics who studies emerging non-equilibrium phenomena and their interplay with boundary conditions. The applicant should be familiar with using and implementing a variety of computational models, including hydrodynamics on a continuum level, e.g. phase-field models and continuum solvers, and particle models, e.g. Langevin dynamics and stochastic rotation dynamics. The applicant should also be familiar with modelling a wide variety of soft, pliable boundary conditions in which biological systems can exist. In addition, the applicant should understand mechano-transduction in biological systems and the possible interplay between local velocity and orientational order of biophysical systems.

The tasks of the appointed Assistant Professor will be:
Development of numerical toolboxes, i.e. agent-based models, hydrodynamical meso-scale modelling and continuum course-grained systems, that can resolve the varying length scales emerging in active materials in interplay with complex, adaptable boundaries. The researcher will develop state-of-the-art numerical tools that can tackle various biophysical problems on system sizes that are not currently feasible, which can complement the work done at the Niels Bohr Institute at the intersection between biology and physics. Preference will be given to applicants who have supervised students before and have demonstrated teaching capabilities. In addition, a track record of cross-disciplinary collaboration with experimentalists, e.g. biologists, physicists, and material scientists, is required.

The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within biophysics. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.
Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement. Please read more at [xxxxx]
