The Department of Computer Science (DIKU) at the University of Copenhagen invites applicants for a temporary assistant professorship in Computer Vision and Machine Learning for Earth Observation Data. The position is part of the Global Wetland Center (GWC), funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The project ends 1 December 2029.
The assistant professorship is for is for four years starting 1 November 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. There is possibility for extension.
The GWC contributes to the development of wetland-based climate change mitigation strategies through a combination of biogeochemical and hydrological modelling, satellite remote sensing and use of artificial intelligence techniques. The center is a collaboration between two departments from the University of Copenhagen (Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management and Department of Computer Sciences), DHI A/S, and GEUS (The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland).
The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research within the GWC, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication, student supervision and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in computer science, applied mathematics, geomatics, or related disciplines. The position requires genuine interest in interdisciplinary research and a strong background in computer vision and machine learning as demonstrated by publications in top-tier computer science publication venues (NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICCV, ECCV, etc.).
In addition, applicants should have experience in geoscience, geography, environmental sciences, ecology, or related disciplines as demonstrated by publications in top-tier journals in remotes sensing and ecology. Experience in working with different remote sensing modalities is required. Knowledge in differentiable programming is a plus.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
