Do you want to take your expertise in Translational Biology and Functional Genomics to the next level?

If yes, then we have an opportunity where you can continuously strengthen the experimental research platform with novel, disease-relevant cellular model systems and functional genomics approaches.

About the department
You will join a new department of senior scientists and technical staff dedicated to apply and implement translational research approach to the fields of cardiometabolic, liver and renal diseases . As a part of our corporate research strategy , the department of Translational Sciences has a focus towards the delivery of a patient-focused portfolio of targets, with human validation, a solid package of clinically executable biomarkers and patient selection strategies. By ensuring solid human disease understanding, we are committed to provide human-based evidences for target discovery, validation and downstream biomarker identification by leveraging and pairing biologically and physiologically relevant cell models with functional genomics. We conceive, characterise and apply translational research and human biology exploration for delivering biomarkers and tools for patient stratification into each single experimental project.

Our commitment is to build a strong scientific presence within cardiovascular, kidney and liver disease research and to build a pipeline of differentiated candidate drugs in heart failure, atherosclerosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.

The position
As a Principal Translational Scientist, your main task is to successfully design and develop disease-relevant translational cellular model systems and apply state-of-the-art functional genomics and gene editing technologies. You will mainly perform research that focuses towards target MoA understanding, , pathway characterization, relevance to disease with the ultimate goal of target and biomarker identification. Further, you give emphasis in the development of cell-based assays, the use of gene editing technologies (CRISPR and/or RNAi) for perturbation and their screening using a variety of readout technologies including gene expression-based assays, flow cytometry and image-based assays to discover and develop strategies for biomarker readouts and hit validation assays. You will analyse and interpret large data sets of outputs, run phenotype-based assays and other activities that help to elucidate the relationship between phenotype and genotype.

In addition, you also master standard molecular biology techniques like RNAi, Next Gen Sequencing, cell biology and cellular engineering technologies.
You are expected to be a subject matter expert who can solve complex problems and act as mentor for senior colleagues within your field of expertise. Subsequently, you are expected to propose- and participate in new project proposals and will be responsible for scientific communication and milestone reporting. On top of that, you will get an opportunity to participate in project progression, technological innovation and can represent various projects, groups, business meetings and scientific conferences.

Qualifications
You hold a PhD and/or MD within at least one of the following areas: diabetes, diabetic complications, with emphasis on cardiovascular and liver disease cellular models. In addition, you have 5 years of experience in cellular/molecular biology and functional genomics or equivalent knowledge through relevant practical experience.

As a person you possess a strong business mindset. Your robust communication skills along with solid networking skills helps you to collaborate successfully with multiple global stakeholders at all levels. Further, you are flexible and can successfully work in a changing environment. You are a good team player yet can work independently.
