READVERTISEMENT Associate professor of haematology nursing

The Research Unit of Haematology, Department of Clinical Research, invites applications for a position as associate professor of haematology nursing (20% time) to be filled from September 1, 2020 or as soon as possible hereafter and for a period of five years.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the development of the research strategy and profile of the Haematology department with special emphasis on research within nursing and to increase the research activity within this field.

The associate professor will be expected to participate in the further development of nursing and haematology both nationally and internationally and in mentoring of PhD-students and other junior researchers.

The Department of Haematology

In total, the department has a little more than 140 employees, comprising physi­cians, nurses, molecular biologists, laboratory technicians and medical secretaries.

Currently, the medical staff comprises 1 chief consultant, 2 professors, 12 consultants, 5 staff specialists and 12 junior doctors working within the following specialized teams:

• Acute leukaemia
• Chronic myeloproliferative diseases
• Malignant lymphomas
• Multiple myeloma and other M-component related disease
• Benign haematological diseases
• Follow-up after allogeneic stem cell transplantation

Current research fields at the Research Unit of Haematoloy are within several diagnostic research areas and employ different methodologies, including quantitative as well as qualitative methods. Thus, there has been a long tradition in the Research Unit for research using qualitative methods, among those exemplified by two finalized PhD projects in acute leukemia patients.

A particular field of research interest is Quality of Life / Patient Reported Outcome measurements (PRO) and in 2017 a centre for Quality of Life Research was established as part of the Haematology Research Unit. Professor Madeleine King from Sydney University was in 2018 appointed as Adjunct Professor at the QoL Research Centre. Examples of current areas of research interest within patient care are shared decision making, treatment sequelae, patients- and relatives perspectives and new innovative technologies.

The research unit also runs a recently established research laboratory for Cellular and Molecular Haematology. This laboratory works in collaboration with the Department of Clinical Pathology and is physically located in conjunction with the Department of Clinical Pathology along with other research laboratories. The laboratory is led by a professor in molecular haematology.

Currently, the Research Unit comprises two clinical professors in Haematology, among those the Head of Research, a professor in molecular haematology, 5 associate professors, 2 academic staff members, 9 research coordinating nurses including a the leading study coordinating nurse, a research secretary, 5 PhD-students and a number of Master students.

The Research Unit publishes approximately 45 peer-reviewed papers annually, primarily in the field of clinical and epidemiological research.

Research tasks

The department aims to expand and develop research within nursing in a broad sense. Thus the candidate will be able to as senior researcher to build up the research field in respect to the research strategy and will be free to use different research methodologies according preferences and identified research needs and goals. The associate professor will be expected to take part in the communicating on issues of research within haematology to the general public.

Moreover, the applicant is expected to perform public duties, i.e. to chair commissions and boards etc.

Teaching tasks

The applicant must anticipate teaching at the pre- and post-graduate courses offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences. These obligations include teaching at the PhD-program.

The majority of teaching and supervisor tasks will be at the Master of Science in nursing.

Clinical tasks

The applicant will get clinical duties and will be responsible for ensuring evidence-based development of the clinical care in the department. The department has focus on implementation of patient-reported outcome (PRO) measurements, patient involvement and shared decision making, and wants to put more focus on patient-experienced late side effects and sequelae to treatment. Establishment of video consultations and outpatient clinics led by specialized nurses are other areas of interest.

The applicant is expected to take part in work in the different particular interest groups, e.g. the nutrition and palliation groups.

Expectations of qualifications

Formal training in academic teaching (e.g. “universitetspædagogikum”) is required. Teaching experience at university level is necessary for the position.

The successful candidate will be expected to have

- a PhD degree in nursing

- research experience documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles within the fields of nursing. Ideally, the candidate has experience within Haematology but this is not mandatory

- a documented record of teaching experience and teaching skills

- a successful track record in obtaining research funding

- a successful track record in interdisciplinary collaboration and with other sectors

- effective oral, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

To speak Danish is not required initially, however, will be required after 1-2 years. Ideally, the applicant must have personal skills to further develop a productive and collaborative research environment. These include:
