At the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, SDU we are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher, who will work with bioimaging and bioprinting to create 3D cell and tissue models for fundamental biophysical and pharmaceutical studies, to commence 1 September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for an initial duration of two years, with the possibility of extension up to a total duration of at least three years. Application deadline: 21 August 2020.
Research related to this position will be performed in the Advanced Bioimaging group (group leader: Associate Professor Jonathan R. Brewer). The Advanced bioimaging group is internationally renowned and works with applications and development of novel imaging techniques. The Advanced bioimaging group can provide the successful candidate access to multiple state of the art imaging modalities and equipment. The group is specialized in super resolution techniques such as STED, SIM and STORM as well as Multiphoton and Raman based microscopy (CARS and SRS). More information on the instrumentation can be found at here.
The research focus for this position is located at the intersection of bioimaging with advanced bioengineering and biophysics, with an emphasis on utilizing bioimaging to characterize and develop 3D-bioprinted tissue models for skin and making them available for fundamental and applied studies. The selected candidate will be working as a part of an interdisciplinary team involving four dynamic research groups (at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and the University of Copenhagen (UCPH)) under the common leadership of Professor Jonathan Brewer from SDU. Strong ties and interactions with all involved research groups are considered a pre-requisite for realizing viable and functional bioprinted skin models.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
• You have a PhD in nanotechnology, physics, biophysics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or similar field. • You are highly experienced in bioimaging.
• You are highly experienced in one or more of the following techniques, live cell imaging, multiphoton excitation microscopy, FLIM, STED, SIM, CARS and/or SRS.
• You have experience with image analysis.
• Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
• Excellent English skills, both written and spoken.
Desirable experience and skills:
• You have an active interest in application and development of advanced optical microscopy for biological samples.
• You have experience in working with optics and building microscopes.
• Experience/knowledge in cell culture protocols.
• Experience/knowledge in bioprinting or tissue engineering.
• You have experienced in microfluidic device applications.
• Experience/knowledge in bioprinting or tissue engineering.
For further information please contact Associate Professor Jonathan Brewer, [email protected].
Application, salary etc. The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
The application must include the following:
• A curriculum vitae including information on previous employment.
• A full list of publications stating the scientific publications on which the applicant wishes to rely.
Shortlisting may be used in the assessment process.
Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
To qualify you must have passed a PhD or equivalent. Applications will be assessed by an expert assessor/committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
Applications must be submitted electronically using the link "Apply online". Attached files must be in Adobe PDF or Word format. Each box can only contain a single file of max. 10 Mb. We strongly recommend that you read How to apply before you apply.
