SDU Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applicants for a 4+4 PhD position in medical data processing using machine learning techniques. The starting date for the position is 1. September 2020. Application deadline is 26. August 2020.
Research environment
The candidate will be integrated in the unit SDU Robotics that is at the core of the Odense Robotics Cluster involving 130+ startups and established companies in robotics. We are specialized in robot solutions involving modelling, simulation and control of advanced robot technologies (systems and services) for industrial, welfare and medical applications.
The group is involved in a variety of national and European projects and features a strong network of academic and industrial partners. We solve challenging research problems from real applications and implement novel robot solutions together with end users such as LEGO, Danfoss, UR, MIR and others.
Profile and requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious student with excellent knowledge of Danish and English (written and spoken), who can work well in a team as well as independently and quickly acquire knowledge in new topics.
The preferred candidate is required to be enrolled in a TEK master’s programme in engineering with a documented educational experience in the topics of electronics, mathematics, physics, embedded systems, and computer programming.
The candidate will be working with developing and testing AI-based algorithms for medical data processing in close collaboration with Danish hospitals.

Important information before applying
To be considered for the position it is required that the applicant is enrolled in a Master's programme (kandidatuddannelse) at the Faculty of Engineering, SDU, and has completed the first year at the time for enrollment.
The 4+4 PhD fellowship programme is divided into a 22 months grant period followed by an employment period. When the master's degree (kandidatuddannelse) is achieved and you as least have attained a grad of 10 (Danish scale), you will be employed at the same terms as a 3-year PhD fellowship. The enrollment and employment will cease without further notice at the end of the 4-year period. A PhD fellow is not allowed to have any kind of sideline employment, while enrolled as PhD fellow at the faculty.
Employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

- Programming in C++ , Python, Tensor flow.
- Experienced with Neural network development.

- Completed TEK PhD application form for 4+4 applicants.
- Motivation letter. Upload in the field called “Project description”.
- Detailed Curriculum Vitae.
- Copies of the official bachelor diploma and transcripts of exam plus master's transcripts of exams.
- Completed TEK PhD form for calculation grade point average. Upload in one of the fields called “Publication”.
- An official document describing the grading scheme of the awarding universities (if not Danish). Upload in one of the fields called “Publication”.
- References, if any. You're welcome to use the form for reference letter at the faculty website.
- List of publications and maximum 2 examples of relevant publications, if available. Please attach one pdf-file for each publication.
