A combined position as clinical professor and head of research at the Danish Centre for Clinical Artificial Intelligence (CAI-X), Odense University Hospital (OUH) and at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and as a consultant in clinical genetics or as molecular geneticist/engineer with expertise in genetics at the Department of Clinical Genetics, Odense University Hospital is vacant as soon as possible for a five-year period with possibility of extension.
Centre for Clinical Artificial Intelligence (CAI-X)
CAI-X is a centre for research and innovation in the field of clinical Artificial Intelligence (AI) established by SDU and OUH. CAI-X aims to improve quality in healthcare through intelligent use of data and technology. The centre sets the framework for efficient and fruitful cooperation between the clinical staff, researchers, engineers, and businesses to develop and implement AI solutions for the benefit of both patients and staff at the hospital. The Department of Clinical Development is one of five staff functions at OUH, which supports the clinical departments in the OUH principle of putting the patient first. The innovation unit works with strategic innovation, and we use new technology to improve treatment, methods, and workflows at the hospital.

The Department of Clinical Genetics
The Department of Clinical Genetics offers genetic counselling of patient and families with hereditary diseases and genetic testing for various diseases and provides service related to 12 of the 15 highly specialised disease groups defined by the Danish Health Authority in Clinical Genetics. The department collaborates with clinicians in most specialities and participates in numerous multidisciplinary teams for optimal diagnosis and treatment of patients with genetic diseases.
The clinical laboratory is ISO 15189 certified and provides high quality and up to date diagnostics of genetic disorders. The laboratory is equipped with the latest technologies to perform various diagnostic services, including non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), chromosome microarray (pre- and postnatal), classic chromosome analysis, FISH, Sanger sequencing, NGS panel analysis and exome/genome analysis. More than 5500 genetic analyses are performed each year and, approximately 3000 patients were counselled at the department in 2020. Together with the Department of Clinical Genetics at Sygehus Lillebælt, the department serves citizens from the entire Region of Southern Denmark.

As a clinical consultant at the Department of Clinical Genetics, you will be involved in the genetic counselling clinic and our laboratory service.
As a consultant, your job will be to:
Obligations as molecular geneticist/ Engineer
As a molecular geneticist at the department, you will be involved in the cytogenetic and molecular genetic analysis in our laboratory. You will work together with technicians, doctors, and other staff, and you will be involved in the analysis, interpretation, and report of test results on both pre- and postnatal patient samples. When defining your areas of work, your previous expertise, interest, and skills will be considered.
As a molecular geneticist/engineer, your job will be to:
Your physical place of work will be Odense University Hospital based in Odense, and you will regularly need to visit the University of Southern Denmark.

Obligations as professor and Head of Research
Your primary responsibility in CAI-X is the clinical research and support of the long-term aim of being a world-leading centre in the field of clinical artificial intelligence.
Your responsibilities will be to:
- Develop the research strategy for CAI-X in cooperation with the Head of Technical Research and to carry out and implement the strategy
- Develop and run the research committee together with the Head of Technical Research
- Fundraise with researchers from SDU and OUH and with the consultants from the Department of Clinical Development and the clinical staff in the projects in the centre
- Matchmake and proactive scout of new research projects and activities
- Ensure coherence and coordination with the internal research and innovation centres Centre for Innovative Medical Technology (CIMT) and the Centre for Clinical Robotics (CCR).
We expect you to
- conduct research at a high international level
- contribute to the development of a strong international AI research environment at OUH
- cooperate with both clinical and technical researchers, health professionals and consultants at both SDU and OUH
- ensure progress in tasks and services for the clinical departments and other primary stakeholders and partners
- support development, test, assessment and implementation of AI technologies at OUH
- promote CAI-X to co-workers, patients, peers and in public debate
- teach and supervise students at both graduate and PhD level.

Obligations as a consultant
As a clinical consultant at the Department of Clinical Genetics, you will be involved in the genetic counselling clinic and our laboratory service.
As a consultant, your job will be to:
- take part in the clinical tasks and development at the department
- be part of the genetic counselling clinic (focused on areas of expertise)
- take part in, and work for, productive collaboration with clinicians at OUH, hospitals in the region, nationally and internationally
- be part of the laboratory team of clinicians
- to be involved with, and responsible for, the clinical interpretations of test results
- take part in teaching at all levels, including supervision of doctors in training for specialization in Clinical Genetics
Obligations as molecular geneticist/ Engineer
As a molecular geneticist at the department, you will be involved in the cytogenetic and molecular genetic analysis in our laboratory. You will work together with technicians, doctors, and other staff, and you will be involved in the analysis, interpretation, and report of test results on both pre- and postnatal patient samples. When defining your areas of work, your previous expertise, interest, and skills will be considered.
As a molecular geneticist/engineer, your job will be to:
- develop and manage a portfolio of methods, technical equipment, and clinical tests
- interpret and report test results for disorders and genes within a portfolio
- communicate effectively with clinicians, colleagues, and laboratory staff
- implement new methods and technologies in the laboratory
- validate and write guidelines for analysis and interpretation of results
- take part in teaching at all levels
- develop a research profile in concordance with the goals and vision of the department
