Job description

The position is co-funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme. The project is entitled “Visiting the Margins. Innovative Cultural Tourism in European peripheries” (INCULTUM) and deals with the challenges and opportunities of cultural tourism with the aim of furthering sustainable social, cultural and economic development. As part of INCULTUM, ten cultural heritage institutions across Europe will implement a number of experimental approaches in order to deal with the challenges and opportunities of cultural tourism. Data will be collected before/during/after these innovative pilot studies. SDU is assigned with the analysis of this data using rigorous statistical tools and will also derive policy recommendations.

  • The successful candidate will be expected to assist in this analysis in order to assess the value of the implemented approaches to urban and regional development and cultural tourism. The minimum expected outcome will be one academic journal publication and based on this, two progress/policy reports. Data collection will be assisted by a research assistant, but it would be an advantage, if the candidate has experience with data scrapping (e.g., using Python).
  • The candidate will be also expected to provide assistance with project management, including the participation in regular meetings with other partners of the consortium and ensuring that various deadlines are met. In most weeks, the administrative support should not exceed 2-5 hours per week.

However, it is encouraged that she/he collaborates with the principal investigator of INCULTUM at SDU on joint projects, preferably, but not necessarily related to the area of INCULTUM. The aim of these collaborations are publications in leading general economics and top-field journals. Therefore, the candidate should state clearly in the motivational letter what projects she/he would like to engage with in the near future, and also whether she/he is willing to collaborate with the PI on some of the PI’s ongoing projects.
  • The successful candidate is an applied microeconomist, who is familiar with one or more of the following areas: urban economics, economic geography, labor economics, cultural economics, economic history.
  • Priority will be given to candidates who convincingly demonstrate the ability to publish in leading journals.
