The Research unit of Physical Activity and Health in Working Life at the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, SDU, invites applications for a position as associate professor in intervention research to improve muscle and joint health to be filled from 1 December 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The candidate will be expected to initiate and conduct research and teaching and to supervise bachelor, master and PhD-students.

We are looking for candidates with expertise in initiation and conduction of clinical and workplace randomized controlled trials based on physical activity, training physiology and cognitive behavioral training.

Further, we expect the candidates to have an ambition to establish themselves as leading scholars in this field of research with a translational approach including multidisciplinary collaboration and a focus on participatory development of the interventions. Experience with participation and responsibilities in international research projects will be given high priority. Similarly, knowledge regarding new technology to facilitate and motivate for exercises and an active lifestyle will be an advantage for qualifying for the position. The candidate will be expected to contribute actively to the competitive research grant funding in the research unit as well as in international collaboration.

The ideal candidate has:

• A PhD degree within work physiology, clinical exercise, physiotherapy, clinical biomechanics, medicine or similar
• Research experience related to the broad area of randomized controlled trial, documented by peer-reviewed publications
• Proven competencies within international collaboration and design of multi-site randomized controlled trials
• A documented record of teaching and supervision experience relevant for the department’s portfolio of study programs
• A plan and strategy for obtaining competitive research grant funding
• Experience with establishing links with academic, research and/or industry partners
• Competencies to engage in knowledge exchange activities

The research line in the Research Unit of Physical Activity and Health in Working Life is to provide evidence for that tailored health initiatives can promote muscle and joint health for the working age population.

The Research unit Physical Activity and Health in Working Life is an active partner in the Center for Muscle and Joint Health, promoting evidence-based prevention and treatment of muscle disorders with a specific focus on the work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

The research unit team is committed to the ambitions, obligations and values of the University of Southern Denmark. We aim to make substantial contributions to the further development of research, innovation and education on prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and chronic pain conditions as well as to maintained and improved work ability and productivity.

Salary and terms of employment

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
