The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Southern Denmark invites applicants for a position as full professor within fundamental theoretical physics. Application deadline: 24 July 2022.

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU, located in Odense. The physics section is focused on basic research within the areas of fundamental physics, biophysics, and computational physics. The section is part of a broader SDU physics research environment across several faculties.

The ambition of the department is to carry out world-class research in fundamental theoretical physics. The applicant should expand and complement our current activities in, and at the interface of, gravity and particle physics. Thus, we are seeking to appoint a professor who is internationally known and recognized within theoretical fundamental physics. The ideal candidate leads an innovative and independent research programme, with broad or even interdisciplinary research scope, at the interface of gravity and particle physics, for instance in quantum gravity and its phenomenology or in astroparticle physics with connections to gravity.

To strengthen the position of theoretical physics at SDU, we are seeking to appoint a professor who will play an active and leading role in international and/or national collaborative projects and thereby strengthen SDU's visibility.

The department is responsible for educations in physics, chemistry, and pharmacy. The ambition of the department is to significantly strengthen the physics education, in particular in fundamental physics at the master level. We therefore expect that the applicant is an inspiring mentor for students and junior researchers as well as an engaged teacher and science communicator.

The candidate must have a proven ability to publish at an internationally high level, a track record of attracting significant research funding and the potential to attract significant research funding within the Danish funding landscape. The ideal candidate should be an active member of the academic community, as evidenced through a track record of relevant activities and services.
