The Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a position as associate professor in Aquatic Toxicology, to begin on 1 January 2023. Application deadline: 11 August 2022.
The ideal candidate’s research interests should cover nano- and microplastic (eco-)toxicity and toxicogenomics, and the position includes teaching in ecotoxicology and pharmaceutical toxicology. The position is a chance to collaborate with our Ecotoxicology group, and potentially also with the other main research groups at the Department of Biology: Earth Evolution, Ecology, Evolutionary Biodemography, Sound Communication and Behaviour.
We seek creative and ambitious applicants with excellent achievement records to join our interdisciplinary department and strengthen the research in nano- and microplastic toxicity and environmental fate. The department holds strong expertise in bioacoustics, behavioural neuroscience, biodemography, biogeochemistry, climate change research, freshwater and marine ecology, ecotoxicology and environmental and conservation biology.
The Ecotoxicology Group at the Department of Biology has its main emphasis on research on the effects of xenobiotics and nano- and microplastic on aquatic organisms. The group has more than 30 years of experience in aquatic toxicology. Endocrine disrupting chemicals, metals, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals in the environment are quantified by LC-MS-MS, GC-MS-MS and AAS, and their effects in fish, amphibians and invertebrates are investigated by i.e. advanced imaging, immunochemical and histological methods in our well-equipped modern laboratories.
The Group offers very good facilities for a variety of in vitro- and in vivo experiments. Currently, four researchers and three lab technicians form the core group, and a varying number of postdocs as well as PhD, master, and bachelor students supplement the group where both academic and social wellbeing is highly prioritized.
Our new colleague will be expected to run courses in basic toxicology for our pharmaceutical students and to supervise biology and pharmaceutical students in their bachelor, master and PhD projects in ecotoxicology topic areas.
