The Center for Life Cycle Engineering at the Department of Green Technology, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a two- or three-year postdoc position in food loss and food waste quantification and sustainability assessment. This position is available from January, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Food loss and waste plays a significant role in sustainable development. The quantification and reduction of food loss and waste are crucial in a sustainable food system transition. This postdoc position is part of the Horizon Europe project WASTELESS which aims to develop a mix of innovative tools and methodologies for food loss and waste measurement, to recommend a harmonised methodological framework for food loss and waste quantification, and to develop decision support tool targeting all food value chain stakeholders. The position will be partly linked to the biowaste related tasks in another Horizon Europe project TREASOURCE as well (https://treasource.eu/; which aims to initiate systemic change by developing systemic circular economy solutions in cities and regions).

Qualifications
The successful candidates should have a PhD degree and knowledge on environmental system analysis, agricultural economics, or similar methodologies. Previous experience working on food loss and waste quantification and sustainability assessment is a plus. Good command of analytical expertise and data management are beneficial.

Ability to work in an international multidisciplinary environment is an advantage. A collaborative mindset and proven track record is an advantage. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills as well as an excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken) are desired.

SDU Life Cycle Engineering
The successful candidates will be affiliated with the SDU Life Cycle Engineering, which is acknowledged for its unique research on global, holistic, and systems integration of agriculture, energy, and materials sectors. The Department of Green Technology is located in Odense, the main campus of the University of Southern Denmark. Odense is a fast-growing international community with an open Scandinavian culture, affordable housing and living costs.

Conditions of employment
Employment as a postdoc is temporary and will cease without further notice at the end of the period. The initial contract is for two years, with possibility for one year extension. The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level. The postdoc position is initially for two years, with possibility of one-year extension pending mutual agreement.

Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur to a limited degree. The Faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.
