Odense M

A PhD position in Hyperspectral Imaging and data analysis is available at the physics section of the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy (FKF), supervised by Professor in Physics Mads T. Frandsen and co-supervised by Associate Professor of Optics Rene Lynge Eriksen, the Mads Clausen Institute. The position will be part of an interdisciplinary group of researchers led by Associate Professor Rene Lynge Eriksen and Professor Mads T. Frandsen (FKF).

Application deadline: 28 August 2023.
Starting date of the position will be as soon as institutionally possible.

Hyperspectral imaging is a fast growing field of both remote and proximal sensing. It is already transforming the fields of Earth Observations and Precision Agriculture and will continue to do so. At the same time the size of data recorded by hyperspectral imaging systems provides barriers for application, but also an interesting challenge and opportunity for applying advanced data analysis methods such as Convoloutional Neural Networks to overcome these barriers.

As a PhD student, you will work on a project aimed at co-developing innovative data analysis methods and optics for hyperspectral imaging across multiple scales. A development that is expected to be carried out also in collaboration with industrial partners where relevant. You will furthermore work on applications of hyperspectral imaging using robots, drones and satellites.

Requirements
The candidate should
- hold a master in physics or similar qualifications;
- preferably have experience with line-scan and/or snapshot hyperspectral imaging technology;
- preferably have experience with AI based image analysis;
- have a strong motivation for and interest in working at the interface between applied physics and applied data science;
- have excellent skills in written and spoken English.

For further information please contact Professor M. T. Frandsen ([email protected]).
